Summary: Fluff, and Lister drinking.

There was the universe where it all worked out. Lister declared love after a drinking session, and Rimmer found that he didn't hate Lister after all.

This, unsurprisingly, came as a shock.

Rimmer tested it. "I hate you." He told Lister when he was sleeping. It felt wrong.

Lister snored and turned, face half-smeared with curry sauce.

Rimmer tried it again. "I hate you." He tried it over and over again, in different ways, and it didn't work.

So he tried the thing he feared most.

"I love you?"

Lister woke up. It turned out he didn't hate Rimmer, either.

Isn't it? I love short vignettes like this that manage to evoke something. Something good, that is. Which this one does. ;)
