Special Occasions

This may seem a little random, but it's Mother's Day in the UK and I'm in a happy, fluffy mood, which set me wondering about which special occasions people think are best suited to the Boyz from the Dwarf, fic-wise.  With Lister's romantic nature, Valentine's is obvious, but getting Rimmer to join in would be the hurdle there.

Also with Mother's and Father's Day for obvious reasons, but Lister's unusual background has yielded a few stories there.  Kronette's given us a few lovely Christmas fics.

I have head canon regarding Rimmer's childhood experiences with Halloween which probably rules that out too, unless you're feeling sadistic.

Perhaps the more obscure ones like Pancake Day and Bonfire Night, which boil down to an excuse to pig out, are more IC.  (I have a bunny regarding the latter and Deb, Arlene, Jim and Bexley which will hopefully get written one day.)

And then there's the most personal one, birthdays or in Rimmer's case, deathdays as seen in "Thanks For The Memory".  I wonder if he now considers that to override whatever his birth date was?

Did Lister (or Cat) ever mention Gazpacho Soup Day again? :p

I don't know any British holidays, really. Perhaps another date Rimmer celebrates, in private, is his emancipation date - privately, because he doesn't see it as particularly a thing to be proud of in wider society, but it means something to him. He might do something unusually nice for himself that day each year. Another day he likely remembers but doesn't celebrate, necessarily, is when Yvonne slept with him. A regular person may not remember the date of their first (I sure don't), but as he waited so late in life, and given his nature, I bet he would.

I feel like Cat would celebrate all sorts of personal holidays just to enjoy the treats he gives himself or that he can wheedle from others. He probably has a set of cat holidays too - like the date the first cat figured out the can opener, the birthday of the steam iron inventor, Cloistermas, etc.

I would love to see more deathday parties in fic. Maybe not my fic because they're total fluff overload already :p but the L/R interaction in Thanks for the Memory is soooo sweet.

I wonder if there are mechanoid holidays that Kryten would celebrate privately until Lister finds out about them and turns them into parties. The day he got his serial number? Professor Mamet's birthday?
