Pre-series (slightly altered timeline). Rimmer has little luck with the ladies; Lister offers to help.

I hope this story makes sense. I'm not sure it does. Sleep-deprived writing is the best/worst/???

Thank goodness for that - I thought for a while that you were going to break the heart of youthful pre-series, puppy dog eyed Lister. I surprised myself by how protective I feel towards him.

Yes, I know he's a fictional character and all that, but he's just so adorable. And innocent despite all his experience. It's an odd combination - someone who's been around at a young age but still fervently believes in true love. *Hugs him*

Oh, and you made good use of Petersen as comic relief, which is how he works best. :)

Oh, but it's okay for me to trample on Rimmer's heart, is it? :p Just kidding. Baby!Lister needs hugs — lots of hugs, every day, from his true love.

I'm glad the Petersen bits worked. I've just started reading IWCD, which confirms that yes, he actually is that drunk.

Ideally, I don't want anyone's heart to be broken (unless it's fixed at the end of the fic). But firstly, I'm not as soft on Rimmer as I am on Lister and secondly, that's just as well for me because there are so many around here who specialise in Rimmer angst and / or torture that I'd need to get over it fairly quickly. ;)

The books are great! I won't spoil too much, but Petersen does make a (drunken) cameo in a later book too. :)
