Yes, they do a good job in the eps, as well as in the book Backwards, of giving you a sense of Young Arn. Ach.

You know, I really can see Rimmer as closet homosexual, even to himself. Lister I see as just openminded/flexible, but Rimmer - well, demanding parents, miltaristic family, expectations up the wazoo, and as an adult, the maladjusted way he views women, and the way he is incapable of forming relationships - well.
