Maybe it was because it was just him and Kryten now, the Cat keeping mostly to himself, as always. Maybe Lister was just lonely. Missing Kris.

Why else would he be thinking of him?

At first, he could barely even remember the name. Sounded like a drain cleaner. Some kind of dirty metaphor. When the the name hit, so did the memories. Rimmer.

There was a face. Limbs; long and skinny. Expressive hands making rude gestures; nostrils. Rather a lot of those. A thick Ionian accent. A smile that really wasn't. Silly things to remember.

And yet he did.

Oooooh! I love this! Holo!Lister and Rimmer! I haven't even thought about this pairing before... Very, very intriguing. Now I'm wondering what the relationship between Holo!Lister and his Rimmer would have been like, and he might react if he ever met Ace!Rimmer on his travels... I just noticed the words WIP in your notes... ^-^ Is it too much for me to hope? =) In any case, great drabble! The "some kind of dirty metaphor" made me giggle, and I really like the way you described those tiny bits of memories that Lister suddenly recalled.
