I thought the comm might appreciate this little anecdote.

I was watching Camille today, and was strongly reminded of a time I'd watched it with my family. At the time I was sixteen, and my little sister was five. We had got as far as the scene where Cat meets Camille, and sees himself. My sister had until then been quiet - I thought she was asleep - but at this point she quite randomly hits out with 'Does that mean Cat's gay?'. I thought I was going to crack a rib I was laughing so hard.

I diplomatically fled the scene, and left the explanation to our poor parents.

I seem to be the only person out of my friends who never got the 'Birds and Bees' talk. My parents just let me watch 18/R rated films and left me to figure the rest out.

I never got it from my mother either. I was lucky enough to have a very thorough sex ed program in school and a sister who would patiently answer awkward questions about prostitutes and beastiality and such. lol.

I'm impressed that a five-year-old knew how to correctly use the word 'gay'. I can't think of any five-year-olds I know who'd use it as anything other than maybe a derogatory word.

My siblings don't tend to do that. Maybe because they have an aversion to being smacked upside the head by me.
