Just saw the first one

So um.. is anyone else as confused as I am? Because I have NO IDEA what is going on... Like.. none... at all...

What specifically don't you understand? :)

[identity profile] lil-lost-kitten.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah... I don't think any clue's been given yet as to what happened to the rest of the crew (I mean, I certainly can't remember anything drastic happening at the end of S8... or was there... I kinda blocked S7 + S8 from my memory pretty thoroughly). So yeah... maybe we'll find that out in parts 2 or 3?

The thing about Lister was just a metaphor though... Russian Holo-girl being all cryptic about him being 'Dead Inside' (maybe from the loss of 'new' Kochanski, I dunno). And yes... I think most people find her as annoying as hell... poor Rimmer.

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Well, at the end of 8 Red Dwarf was being destroyed by a nanovirus or something, Rimmer was being chased down the corridor by Death and everyone else was trapped in a parallel universe or something?

I figured they'd just do the same thing as between series 2 and 3 and go "oh so we've changed a bunch of stuff, here's a vague handwavy explanation but who cares!"

[identity profile] dauphkantus.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, if you pause it and forward it frame by frame it says briefly about holly changing his gender cause he's lovesick and how kryten crashed the space bike and they repaired him to factory settings and lister sent the boys back to their 'dad' and whatnot. If you don't do that though I had read somewhere (possibly ff.net) someone wrote the 'lost' episode called "Dad" that takes place after parallel universe. Explains everything quite well =D

AT LEAST YOU GUYS GOT TO SEE IT SOMEWHERE?! I haven't seen it, and don't think I can unless I either buy it when it's released over here or watch it off the interwebs somewhere.

I think she understands, but is somewhat confused as to why it's an issue in a *Red Dwarf* post. It's just an icon.

Just a major Pet Peeve.

She really doesn't seem to understand.

Really? An icon? I thought it was a toaster.

But why? Mine does look a lot better. You should use it!

Why did you delete all your previous comments? :C

I can make it without caps if you'd like, I'm just going with the theme of generally most un-motivational posters.

I'm sure she's fully capable of both understanding and reading your own blog, which you claim is supposed to be "ironic." I fail to see how someone who doesn't know you would automatically be aware that your repetitive and incorrect use of capital letters and poor grammatical structure are meant to convey an attitude or intention contradictory to your own. If that's the case, then couldn't you assume that she used internet "shortspeak" as part of an ironic comment on blogging and the way in which it is destroying the art of proper writing? Mocking it while falling prey to its idiosyncrasies? That would have been my assumption.

Fair enough. I guess the 9 years later part is probably so they don't have to explain how they got from the end of season 8 to this, but maybe they'll explain it better later? Then again Red Dwarf isn't exactly known for its continuity ;)

As for the "bringing Lister back to life" thing, Katerina (?) made some reference to him being dead inside what with spending all day sleeping and ironing sneezes, so I think it's more figurative?

She's clearly some sort of evil villain though so I'm sure Rimmer will win through :)

tbh I think they've probably made part one deliberately confusing so that we'll stick around for parts two and three!

I think this will be a case of 'all will be revealed later'. They want people to watch all three, so they're baiting us to watch the other two so that we can find out where everyone has gone. Series 7 and 8 must surely have happened, otherwise the picture on the grave would have been Clare Grogan, right?

Besides, it's no fun if we know everything all at once!

Incidentally - I am loving this so far, but anyone else feel a little lonely without the audience laughter track?

[identity profile] dauphkantus.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well as for the audience- from what I knew a lot of it was filmed piecemeal, and at such odd times and places- it's not like they had a set or anything! So of course there wasn't really an audience and therefore no one to laugh until afterward ^_^;

[identity profile] dragonsquill.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Speaking of sets, I don't think anyone over five feet could have fit in one of those bunks. 0_~

Not necessarily - when an actor's been replaced it's normal to do flashbacks with the new actor even in a time when they shouldn't have turned up yet (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FlashbackWithTheOtherDarrin)

Uh, I'm saying the special sounds like a train wreck. Is English not your first language? It isn't mine either, though I can generally understand simple statements in direct response to something. Hmm...

Why would I care if you banned me from your journal? I'm not posting to you from your journal. I didn't realise you had such an intense complex.

We were a bit confused but not majorly so. Assumed the rest of the crew had escaped at the end of series 8 and this lot had managed to save the ship. Assumed this holoRimmer was of 8's Rimmer who either died after kicking Death in the nuts or at some point in the last nine years. Not sure where new chick came from but don't trust her. Anyone else notice her failure to refer to Holly by name (even Hollister called Holly by name)?
(deleted comment)

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
And her reluctance to explain why the ship could sustain 2 holograms?

Yes, very suspicious...

[identity profile] slicesmissus.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
The convo between her and Rimmer where he explained about Lister running a bath, she referred to Holly as the ship's mainframe or somesuch and it just struck me as odd.
