I think this will be a case of 'all will be revealed later'. They want people to watch all three, so they're baiting us to watch the other two so that we can find out where everyone has gone. Series 7 and 8 must surely have happened, otherwise the picture on the grave would have been Clare Grogan, right?
Besides, it's no fun if we know everything all at once!
Incidentally - I am loving this so far, but anyone else feel a little lonely without the audience laughter track?
That's what I figured too. The Kochanski thing, the season 8 ship model and Bob's seasons 8 Bob... so Unless they couldn't get Clare's permission to use her image *shrug* but theeeeen what happened to everyone?
BUMBUMBUUUUUUM
But yeah, it was a wee bit confusing but I didn't dislike it.
Well as for the audience- from what I knew a lot of it was filmed piecemeal, and at such odd times and places- it's not like they had a set or anything! So of course there wasn't really an audience and therefore no one to laugh until afterward ^_^;

Not necessarily - when an actor's been replaced it's normal to do flashbacks with the new actor even in a time when they shouldn't have turned up yet (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FlashbackWithTheOtherDarrin)
