Has Red Dwarf ruined made any songs infinitely better for you? I refuse to believe that I'm alone here.

LOLOL - this is weird, because miss_flibble and I were discussing song-spirations for writing fanfic earlier today.

OK - just for the record? I think "Bad Romance" has ruined everybody's fandom, in all fandoms, or vice versa. Where CAN'T that damn song be used? *G* (Despite this I like the song for itself.)

My thing is, I have a lot of songs I like, some for a long time, and I've used some of these across several fandoms. So I can't say Red Dwarf has appropriated any particular song for me. On the other hand, I have SO MANY songs I could throw at you that I associate with the characters. I'll just pick one that I think works well with SMAC and Blue, Miles Away (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhcSyLTTlQI) by Madonna. Seems to sum up the Lister/ArnAce bromance well.

I know exactly what you mean. I think I've lost count of the times when I've thought, "Yeah.. Bad Romance totally applies to fandom XYZ! I should write fic!" And then my brain gets stuck on the image of the characters trying to do the dance.

I do the same thing with songs. I've got a few that seem to turn up on every fanmix I put together. Because apparently, The Pet Shop Boys speak for everyone. :P

And now I'M imagining them all coming across a settlement of simulants created by a pop-techno-loving scientist way back on Earth in our future, who only speak in GaGa-ese ... where potential trading partners and supplicants have to don McQueen heels (http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2009-11-11-slide_3076_43346_large.jpg) (much as in "Justice" with the locking shoes) to approach the leaders ... where negotiation is conducted in hose, tight bodysuits, cigarette sunglasses, and Technicolor wigs ... and the guards are all Great Dane/Afghan crossbreeds.

Alright, now I know which image will be haunting my mind for the next week. The idea of them all in tight, glittery bodysuits and trying to walk in McQueen heels is absolutely delightful. Cat would be in his element and I'm sure and oh god... Rimmer having to wear cigarette sunglasses. That's bound to go well. :D
