I am too damn excited for the new series. I've been a fan since at least 94 when I saw Marooned on PBS when I turned to the channel to watch Dr. Who. Hey, it was the old Tom Bakker episodes of Dr. Who. :-)

I used to watch RD on PBS back in 94 or around then - I'd just gotten out of college and was living by myself for the first time with no roommates and could watch what I wanted when I wanted!

For 17 years I have remembered 2 things: Lister's reaction to Kryten's Polaroid; and never heat gazpacho.

That's the nice thing about having a geek mom and a geek sister, I always got to watch the geeky shows I loved.

I hate my PBS station right now because they never did run the BtE special. So, I had to buy it to see it. I'm sure that's what I'll have to do with the new ones, too. *Shakes fist at IPTV.*

I'm wondering if they'll air at all on BBCA. I know it's not a BBC production, so I'm not sure about the access, there.

It's not out of the question - I know for a fact that BBC America have shown (British) Channel 4 programmes, so obviously they do show non-BBC productions. :)

I remember seeing some of Red Dwarf on BBCA, but given that back in 2009 or even 2010 when BtE was aired I do not recall seeing it even on BBCA. So, I'm not holding my breath.

That's about the time I was watching on PBS...I had to stand at my little 13" tv and twist the knob to change channels between channels 2 (Forever Knight, X-Files), 4 (Crimetime after Primetime, American Gothic), 11 (Babylon 5, Highlander) and 9 (Doctor Who/Red Dwarf). My Doctor was 5 and I never understood why the Daleks were so scary. I don't remember much about the first run of RD, only later when I caught series 7 and saw "Blue". That kiss imprinted itself on my psyche and made me a happy little slasher.

X-files... *sighs* My first introduction into Fan Fic.. *sighs* I joined the X-files Fan club just to read fan fiction. :-)

I remember when My PBS station was running Brittas on Saturdays and I was cutting hair in my salon and I had to turn my client to face the TV so I could watch it. I finally just didn't schedule clients when it was on.

Brittas was on PBS? Of course it was, and it's not now *sigh* I didn't have BBCA for years, and now I don't have satellite/cable at all (Roku streaming, Hulu and Netflix). Mom, however, gets every Charter channel known to man; she works for them. If I ever get desperate, I'll pay a visit :)

I wrote my first story in 1994 (DS9 - Bashir/Garak). Sometime close to then is when I found RD, because I was living at home for a year after college and I know I was at home when I first saw it. I did a brief stint in XF fandom; a friend of mine did the vids for it, though.

I only ever saw the Doctor Who fan club (locally, the CIA) on the pledge drives, but I have found a few references online that apparently the RD groups would answer phones on Sunday nights during pledges. I don't recall those; maybe we're too DW-based, here.

I actually can't remember when I saw my first Red Dwarf episode (probably around 1990), although I remember really liking "Parallel Universe". :D

I had an earlier slash moment, watching "Demons and Angels" in the living room with my family. I remember Low Rimmer sashaying down those steps and threatening Lister. I was embarrassed and thrilled at the same time - I think I was in my mid-teens. :)

I was thrilled by the kiss, but it's a shame they showed so little of it in the show itself. I suppose it would have stopped being funny and started being hot - which obviously wasn't the effect they were going for.

MAN. I can't remember if I saw "Demons and Angels" back then. If I had, I would have freaked at Lister eating the spider scene. It still makes me shiver and I can't watch it. I have a very large, huge fear of spiders.

I had the same reaction you did to Low R/L, except to "Blue". :) It was the first time I'd seen two guys kiss, and it didn't go on NEARLY long enough. Knowing now that they filmed a good 20 seconds and cut it off before it really got going, ticks me off. It barely got to funny before it cut to Lister waking up. The shock value was just picking up and the scene changed. I've always felt cheated...so now I have the extended kiss and watch repeatedly.

I can't watch the spider bit either. Yuck.

Yes, what I've always wondered is how the audience reacted to the rest of that kiss. (I know it wasn't live; I mean the audience they showed it to for the laugh track.)

I'm on a repeat loop, I know, but ... if you can work it out and find out about ticket access, let me know because that would be about the only time I know I could go. (End of the year is always iffy because of all the special issues we publish that I have to coordinate. ERGH.)

January would be my best shot at jumping across the pond, too. Plane tickets drop about $300 about mid-January. I know it's a very long shot for me, but I'm holding out hope.

If I hear anything about tickets etc, I'll obviously post it here. I think Miss Flibble's better connected than I am, though. ;)

Don't worry. I know you're chomping at the bit to get some. Even yesterday, my inner circle were still expressing excitement and scratching their heads as to how to get tickets. Will definitely post details as soon as I know anything.

Hell, I'm 35 and I'd do it. I'd even bring my tent and my sleeping bag. I don't care. I'd be out of the US and some place I love.

I just mean, I don't camp. If God wanted me to sleep outdoors he would've made my skin bug-repellant and fitted my back with a concrete block, LOL. (I was forced to camp with my fraternity in college. It was cold and to this day I contract bronchitis too readily.)

I am the same way, though. If I am not careful, my normal winter cold I get about October turns into bronchitis by January and I have it until April.

This is a rather scary thing to say, as I'm currently torturing Rimmer rather violently in exactly that scene. Well, and the scenes I'm writing after the fact.

I'm currently fighting a cold that's dragged on throughout most of August and it's annoying the hell out of me. Thankfully, I've only had bronchitis once but my colds drag on. for. months. Not even the new holistic doctor can seem to smack them down.

That was my life for several years of this decade. I'm sorry to see ANYONE else having to go through that.

I've never camped, and I never will. I tell people I'm an environmentalist who hates the outdoors. I hate bugs. I hate bugs of all kinds. I will not pee in the woods. I hate snakes. I wouldn't know poison ivy if it bit me. Did I mention I hate bugs?

But I've been out in Birmingham at 3am, and don't recall many insects swarming around. Of course, that was in early March and I was jet-lagged, and most of the surrounding area seemed to be paved over. I don't recall much green in Birmingham. Why was I out at 3am? Going from the con hotel back to our hotel. Some lovely English blokes wanted to hear our lovely American accents. My friend and I were in heaven :)

Really? I know it's your take, but I don't know that I see him as our Ace, but I don't see him as our Rimmer, either. Is that a way to explain the weird mish-mosh of both of them, but neither of them, in the Rimmer for S8? We saw what a git Rimmer was pre-accident and he didn't improve with age (thank Io for that). This Rimmer...isn't. I guess it was the writer's trying to make him more likeable, but honestly, my fav bit is when he's used the sexual magnetism virus. That's my bastard ;-) Rimmer wasn't meant to be likeable (though, how could you not??).

S8 was better for me than S7 in some regards, but the turn to pure comedy set me off a bit. The dinosaur really threw me out, too (sorry, Pete). The lavender prison suits made up for a lot. Seriously, who assigns prisoners, especially male prisoners, lavender jumpsuits?? Plus, we got nearly full-on naked Rimmer and Lister, so who am I to complain, really?

Apparently, I'm still bitter that they brought Kochanski on to "replace" Rimmer in S7 and that taints my view of S8 as well. Rimmer/Chris (now, now, rein in the slashy brains) leaving in S7 almost completely turned me off the show. Thank goodness I stuck around for "Blue", or else my entire outlook on life would have been drastically different. My God, no slash?! The horror!

Speaking of, I'm supposed to be trying to figure out if the boys can do anything while Rimmer's still a hologram. Or if I want to mess with it for this story. Or if I just want them to stay frustrated until the end of time...or until they meet Legion in about ten months. Smeg.

Brilliant never thought of that.

I don't think that he was our Rimmer quite yet. I actually like to think that our Rimmer came back saved Resurrected Rimmer and convinced him to take his place. (hence why BtE we have Hard Light Rimmer back.)

That was quite an epic one. I enjoyed it. Very very good story.
