Intriguing Tweet From Doug Naylor (Very Mild Spoiler)

In response to a question on Twitter, Doug Naylor confirmed that something which has bothered fans for years will be answered in the new series.

A fan asked "Is Rimmer in the new ones the hologram of the resurrected Rimmer in Series 8 or the one who became Ace?"

Doug replied "Watch RDX and all will be revealed in Show 6".

It probably is "our" Rimmer, but I'm glad we'll finally know. :)

Maybe we shouldn't get too excited - I've just read this from the writer of Ep 6's Set Report for G&T: "It took me a moment to work out what [Doug] was referring to. Unless they’ve shot some new stuff, I wonder if he’s over playing the issue somewhat".

Then again, they were indeed shooting new stuff right up until last Saturday.

YAAAAY!!!! *does a little dance* I've always had a soft spot for the "original" hologram Rimmer, since it always bothered me that the other Rimmers didn't have any of the memories we know and love, like falling in love in "Holoship" and having regret over Rimmerworld. I think those experiences really shpaed "our" Rimmer, and I love him so much more than the original alive Rimmer or Series 8 Rimmer. I hope it's my Rimmer back!!! <3

I personally saw the BTE Rimmer as the revived Rimmer turned dead, because he was such a git again. If it was original Rimmer returning from being Ace, I'd have thought he'd have changed more i.e. become sane. But that wouldn't be good television.

Oh well. This is why I hate writing fanfiction for series that haven't really finished. Half my stories become AU without my meaning them to.

Most intriguing...

My gut feeling says it's our Rimmer, too. I never felt too warmly towards the series VIII Rimmer, since he's technically a reboot of the series I Rimmer. He hadn't been on the same adventures as the rest or have the memories of those years. So yeah. I'm rooting for old Rimmer. In which case I'm very curious in how/why he stopped being Ace. And if he recruited someone else before he hung up the wig and tinfoil jacket.

Seriously hope it's our boy -- though since this is Doug, my brain is betting against my heart on some strange third option (like say nano!Rimmer dying and getting BOTH disks uploaded when his hologram was brought back so he has two sets of Rimmer memories, allowing him to take whichever direction he wants to whenever Doug likes).
