Crossovers (Continued)

Sorry, LJ is being ridiculous and won't let me edit the previous entry, so I've had to make a new one.  I started thinking about crossovers because I have a plot bunny involving our boys watching a certain favourite film of mine.  I'll post it soon; it's just a question of making sure it's not too self-indulgent.  Plausibility aside, what characters would you enjoy seeing Rimmer and Lister encounter?  It doesn't matter how ridiculous it would be. ;)

Rimmer and Lister in Toon Town. MWAHAHAHAAA!!!

[identity profile] sallycandance.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Every cartoon ever lives in Toon Town, from Animaniacs to Disney. So yeah, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck hanging out with Rimsy--heehee, I'd love to read about that!

Totally. "Who Framed The Scutter?" LOL

I started writing a Red Dwarf/Labyrinth crossover many years ago that never got finished. I also scraped together the makings of a RD/POTC fic and wrote snippets but never published any of it. I would really love to see a Futurama crossover one day, featuring Ace and Zapp Brannigan. Of course, in the privacy of my head all sorts of crossovers happen - but most of them require very little in the way of an actual plot. If you get my meaning...

The thing I struggled with the most was getting Jack Sparrow's voice down. There were a couple of scenes where I thought I got it, but I just couldn't do it on demand. Which was a shame, because in many ways he and Lister got along famously (although Rimmer absolutely hated him).

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2013-06-11 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Jack was the character I used to write in our gestalt with Nat; he's fun. Not sure I could write him now that easily. :-)

I feel like Jack is a lot like Rimmer - opportunistic, backstabbing, self-centered. But capable of nobility at rare moments for people they love (yet still capable of turning on them). Whereas Lister is largely noble, willing to fight if need be, doesn't want to leave a man behind - kind of like Will.

I never thought about it that way but you're so right! This is making me want to start writing it again...

YES! Red Dwarf/Futurama FTW!

[identity profile] saylee.livejournal.com 2013-06-10 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The great thing about RD is that thanks to infinite dimensions/time travel/etc. technically any crossover is possible. I once wrote a short crossover with Jeeves & Wooster, though admittedly that was mostly to see if I could do it. I've seen some crossovers with Doctor Who, but don't know enough about it to know if they get it right.

I'm not sure what I'd want to see a crossover with. Blackadder, maybe?

[identity profile] saylee.livejournal.com 2013-06-11 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm now going through everything I can think of in my head, and while I'm not sure how any of them would work, I think it would be fun to cross over with any of Star Wars, Firefly or, for a change of pace, Xena.

I never wrote it, but I always wanted to write a DEATH/Red Dwarf crossover, aka how the guys survived that weird virus thing.

I'm just getting around to reading The Hunger Games, and now everything looks like potential crossover material.

Rimmer's father and brothers are probably all Victors, so when he gets reaped, there's a truckload of pressure for him to live up to the family history. In a different District, Kochanski gets chosen as the female tribute, so Lister volunteers in place of the male tribute, planning to protect her. Cat and Kryten are Rimmer and Lister's stylists, respectively.

Nobody wants to make an alliance with Rimmer when his pre-Games score is a 3...except Nirvanah Crane. At some point in the arena she willingly sacrifices herself to save him, and that's when his plan changes from "find a tribute who looks sort-of reasonable and beg them for a quick and painless death" to "smoke me a kipper, I'll be back in the Capitol for breakfast."

Kochanski knows that in order to win this thing she'll have to stab Lister in the back at some point, and she's practical enough to do it, too, but she feels increasingly guilty about it.

At some point they team up with Rimmer, and either manage to escape the arena itself via an improbable series of heroics involving alligator-surfing, or pull a three-sided version of Katniss' and Peeta's trick. (Kochanski is planning up until the last second to fake the other two out, but then Rimmer says "well, better dead than smeg," and that pushes her conscience to win out after all.)

This sounds AMAZING.

If I ever, and I mean EVER, get back to it, I have a RD/Doctor Who/Tomb Raider story started. It was just going to be DW/TR, but that damn smegger Rimmer insisted on butting in. Haven't figured out if there's any sort of plot there, or just Hillary in the TARDIS.

I have read a few Tomb Raider/RD stories, and a few Brittas Empire/RD. Laura seems to like Rimmer, as he's not Brittas and she can do with him what she can't with Gordon. :D It's late...have I read a TR/RD story?? Or is that just wishful thinking in my head? Yes! Lara and Bryce were touching a box the same time as Lister, Cat and Kryten, and they swapped places. So Lara had Rimmer (and not Hillary), and Hillary had to put up with slobby Lister and Cat sniffing Lara's undergarments. Don't know if that was on FF.net or AO3.

Rimmer was in The Simpsons comic strip if you want to go cartoony.

Since I've been inundating myself with it the past two weeks: Star Trek Enterprise. Just because. Or have them land in TNG; they can meet up with Q and see if Q gets annoyed with Rimmer faster than Picard. Any space show will work, obviously. It's the ones where they need to be on Earth that would pose tricky. Hell, throw Kryten in the Star Wars universe, and have Luke pick him instead of C3PO.

There was a story where the Doctor, Amy, and Rory visited Red Dwarf (or Starbug) and two of them had a 3-way with Lister because he wasn't getting any from Rimmer. I don't remember the title.

[identity profile] saylee.livejournal.com 2013-06-11 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I know the one you're talking about. I don't remember the title either, but I think it was by tsukinobun.

Yes - Jack, not Rory. Oops!

Any idea where I could find the rest of that fic? (Last of Our Kind?)

Hm, filter button? No, I don't know where you're looking. But I have found that she tagged that one you had linked to, and the tag brought up the others, so - very nice story. :)

I don't see anything anywhere that says I'm a member. Maybe I'm not. I have no filters (but anyone who knows me knows that...) (I'm sure my brother really appreciated me telling him all about my overly active menstrual cycles...)

Oh, wait... I'm sorry, I wasn't looking at the front RD Slash page, I was looking around on these behind pages. I think of these reading pages as 'behind' pages, or 'inside.' Oh, I've been up 20 hours I think, I need to sleep.

I have an idea for a crossover fic but it's one of those fandoms that people either love or want to murder everyone in it so I'm not sure if I should even mention let alone try writing it ._.

[identity profile] saylee.livejournal.com 2013-06-11 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be interested in hearing what it is.

[identity profile] dark8nightshade.livejournal.com 2013-06-11 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
This icon should give it away ;)

[identity profile] saylee.livejournal.com 2013-06-11 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
As a fellow fan of MLP, I heartily endorse this idea.

Something like this? :-)

As I gather, it's the misogynistic portion of the Bronies against whom haters hatch murder schemes .... ;-)

[identity profile] dark8nightshade.livejournal.com 2013-06-11 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Judging from what I have seen, there's malice being spewed for far less valid reasons.
But then, I don't really care. I enjoy what I enjoy even though I am sometimes careful with announcing one fandom within the realm of another ;)

I started writing a Red Dwarf / M*A*S*H* crossover about a billion years ago. I think I got as far as Sargent Zale helping Lister put Kryten's leg back on. Houlihan was hitting on Rimmer because he showed up in his white Commodore uniform, and Cat was chasing the nurses. :)

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2013-06-14 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Margaret would SO go for Rimmer - he's too much like Frank Burns. :-P

[identity profile] kronette.livejournal.com 2013-06-19 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
All right; who submitted it? :)
