Most Fic-Inspiring Eps

We may have had this topic before, but with a different emphasis.  I don't mean the eps you personally think are the slashiest, but the ones which seem to inspire the most slash fic.  (I haven't really read enough het or gen to be able to comment on those except to say that the Ace eps would probably come top there.)

My list (not in order) is as follows: Blue, Demons & Angels, Terrorform, Dimension Jump, Stoke Me A Clipper, Balance Of Power (the power struggle, obviously), Me2 (two Rimmers clearly sparks people's imagination), Marooned, Bodyswap for obvious reasons, Legion (even more obvious) and possibly Rimmerworld.

So what are others' perceptions?  Oh, and thanks to Feckles on Tumblr, whose jokey comment about Terrorform fics being obligatory for us slash writers inspired this topic.

Gotta agree with your choices there! So, thinking outside the box, I'm gonna say that 'Back to Earth' inspired a whole new generation of RD ficcers - especially the gap-filling between VIII and BTE. As for Series X, I'd say Entangled and Dear Dave were big inspirations for me :-)

I deliberately left out "BTE" and X because I wasn't sure if they'd been around long enough to inspire the same amount of fic as the earlier series, but thinking about it, you're right about the effect "BTE" had. There has been a lot of fic based around it.

I recently had the pleasure of informing a newbie on Tumblr that "BTE" wasn't the end as she'd thought due to Series X's absence from US Netflix. Her joy was lovely. :D

It's strange as BTE didn't necessarily inspire directly-related fics but it gave a massive boost to an otherwise ailing ficcing fandom. It had all gone far too quiet :-(

If you discovered there was a whole series of RD to catch up on, that would be the best find in the whole of today!

I'd agree with all the above but would maybe throw in Parallel Universe for genderswap and Mpreg stuff. Also Thanks for the Memory and maybe Holoship.

Yes, I did think about those but thought they were a little less obvious. "Holoship" has probably inspired loads of het, but Rosecathy and yourself amongst others have shown how easily it can be translated into slash.

It was interesting (and refreshing) that Rob and Doug didn't go out of their way to specify that the "not turning down offers of sexual congress" thing only applied to m/f liaisons. Because let's face it, all those holograms on a ship for millennia, having discarded the notion of family etc would be pretty unlikely to care about gender after a while. ;)

This, holy shit, and then I didn't shut up for three fics.

I can't remember off the top of my head if I ever did a Terrorf-- oh, wait, I actually did that really recently, duh. (Two years ago is totally recent in terms of my RD fandom history.)

As for the rest of it I don't know if I want to look at my works history to see where they all came from!

For me, it's "Blue" since it was the first 'gay' kiss I'd ever seen, real or fictional. It's stuck with me over the decades years just for that reason. My slash tends to come out of Rimmer-angst, so Thanks for the Memory is good, as is The Beginning. Legion has a whole slew of stories surrounding it, and Demons and Angels. and of course with infinite dimensions comes infinite Ace/Rimmer fic. :)

Yes, "The Beginning" hasn't been around long enough to have that much fic yet, but in years to come it may rival "SMAC" in the "springboard for Rimmer character development" stakes. ;)

BHWAA! Sorry, I just saw what I wrote. Mom was honking the car horn for me to come down, so I typed Ace/Rimmer instead of Ace/Lister. Whoops! I think as far as The Beginning goes, we're all holding our breaths to see if that character development continues or it's forgotten like some other plot developments.

Oh, I thought you meant Rimmer-as-Ace fic. Either is fine, but I do have an admitted weak spot for Lister/Ace, not more than L/R, but a respectable second. :D

Also Back to Reality. I've seen a few fics that use the "shit I'm attracted to/have been sleeping with my brother" thing to great effect.

Good point. I'm not into "real" incest fics, but I enjoy the drama which comes with their misplaced guilt and then relief. And any fic which acknowledges Lister's hotness as Sebastian Doyle gets the thumbs up from me. ;)

I'm still very new to all this, but I'm finding my inspiration for fics seems to come from little moments rather than from full episodes. I have several ideas brewing in my head that I need to find the time to write down, but most are inspired by particular small things.

Duct Soup is a dreadful episode, but those long johns were MORE than inspiring. Although those certainly weren't a small thing.
