Another update!

I wasn't going to post this yet, but as you all seem to have a theory I thought I'd let you find out if you're right or not!

An unexpected bonus! I feel a bit daft now.

***SPOILERS****

Please tell me I'm not the only one who half thought Rimmer might have orchestrated a fake kidnapping to scare Lister into being more reclusive? It just seemed too convenient that he'd gone out with Taylor at the exact time Lister needed a safe ride.

New suspects - either Walker (although that seems fairly unlikely to me) or Sam Murray and possibly Rick Thesen.

I'm sure Howard is involved but perhaps he didn't think he was arranging what it turned out he was. I'm surprised he's brave enough to face Rimmer's wrath.

Assuming it's not John or Frank; but why would they be involved? *Mind in a whirl*

Oh, and homophobic Beardy needs a junk punch. :p

** MORE SPOILERS **

Yep, that's exactly where my mind had gone too!

I'm thinking Kochanski! Why? Simply because I have no other ideas! :D

No, I thought so too. It was a relief to be wrong!

I was not correct, which is good - but also bad, as I am curious what would have happened if I were right. :-D

Pretty much the same as everyone up above me ...

I blame kronette and her Lessons in Heroics fic. I was ready to blame it on his hard-light projection having some sort of bug or malfunction that was making him more irrational. :D

Precisely. And that gen fic on AO3. Malfunctioning holograms are on my mind lately. :p

A couple of thoughts about Rimmer: If something did go wrong with his projection, it wouldn't be too difficult to activate a backup, would it, since his company has made hard-light technology widely available? Could someone, in theory, make infinite copies of themselves? Also, it's sad that he did the dimension jump to face his demons and all that, but he's now even more in their grip. :(

When you're doing something to impress people who will never be impressed by it, you're never going to get that closure. Plus he set a too-high bar for himself. (I remember reading the first story in this series and thinking Wouldn't it just beat all if Rimmer lost his entire fortune and Lister was the one who became/had become successful and was the rich one in the relationship? Because I'm evil. LOL)

I'm sure there are backups but presumably Lister would still need to take charge in the interim and there would probably be red tape to go through before Rimmer could be reactivated. Given his cautious nature I'm not surprised he'd want to cover every eventuality.

Well, if he didn't still have some demons it would remove a rich source of drama. And I think it's realistic that he wouldn't totally get over them.

I'm wondering how Howard's going to get a word out without Rimmer going medieval on his arse. ;)
