Competition - ficlet, R/L
Rimmer seemed to me to be the jealous type, but when I tried to think of jealousy in the context of Rimmer/Lister, Kochanski isn't what lept out.

While I'm not big on doing the covered-in-maple-syrup thing, I think a properly done bit of messy eating is very, very alluring.
It's kinda funny - I think I'm more Rimmerine, and can write his neuroses because of that (yes, the kinda person who has to look for The Rival, because there's no way he's enough in himself, nooo), and can only write Lister in the context of The Opposite who makes a good complement. I think you're more Listerine, and can pull him out of you, so do you do the opposite?
Well, I also base Lister a bit on my brother. But only a little, little bit. The guy who spears cheese chunks on a fork and roasts them over an open burner.
They don't talk - they just insult and be mean. Men! *rolls eyes*

What I like about your Lister is how you manage to make him thuroughly disgusting, yet attractive at the same time. I do identify with Lister more that Rimmer; in fact, I probably put too much of myself in the character at times. I really try not to! I'm not sure how I write Rimmer. I think I understand his angst and insecurity the best, because I used to be like that in grammar school. (Oddly enough, I was popular in high-shool. Not that I'm complaining!) And I believe in aliens!
I'm going to have to figure out a way to have Lister eat oranges the way I do in a fic. I can't believe I missed the opportunity in "Orange". Oh well... *ponders*

Disgusting is alluring in a very narrow range. It's easy to overdo it. But sex is messy (if done right), so there's a balance there.
"Aliens!" Best in Thanks For The Memory, IMO. SpaceMonkey has an icon from that scene that I just love.
Orange is great; my favorite of your fanfics thus far. I love the imagery, and the twist at the end is a perfect squee. :)

Ooh! I'm glad you liked Orange so much. That ending gave me a headache worrying about wether it worked or not, so hurrah! (I can't help thinking of Hugh Laurie as Prince George in Blackadder III whenever I say 'hurrah'.)
Also, I just realized that I draw somewhat on my boyfriend for my Rimmer-inspiration (Rimmspiration?). He's a little like him, but also, I just have to think of how he would react to my Lister-ness.
