Just wanted to say here - rather than risk offending that Robert Bathurst fan - how odd it is when you post photos of him almost 30 years older.

Don't misunderstand me - he looks really good and obviously I have seen him older before but I think he'll always be preppy, 30-ish Todhunter to me. ;)

(EDIT: Hit Post too soon) He does look very different (good in both eras, though, obviously), doesn't he? One thing that makes it more jarring IMO is his hair colour then vs now, because it looked oddly dark during RD.

Now that you mention it, in "The End" both his hair colour and Rimmer's varies, I assume between the original shoot and the remount the year after.

I need to watch it again but it's almost as though the hairdresser on the first shoot had a bottle of brown hair dye they wanted to use up and went to town on both Chris and Mr Bathurst! I've always thought Todhunter looks different (and more attractive) in the party scene where he calls for a toast to George McIntyre than he does in his first scene. Wonder if that was because the actor's hair had reverted to its (then) natural colour.

I could probably write an article on the differences between the original and remounted shoot, but I think someone on G&T already has. ;)

I know what you mean about the variations, which might also have been due to lighting or the overuse of products? But yes, Rimmer's hair especially changes substantially during The End (for the better, IMO). As for Mr Bathurst, what puzzles me is that he seems to have become blonder with age before going grey -- can that happen? :S He looks pretty dark in the photo of him as a tiny baby performing with tiny baby Emma Thompson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/uon/4689590291) but then he's already leaning blond in Joking Apart, which was filmed only a few years after RD.

Sorry...I just like hair.

Awww, he looks so cute there. Never thought I'd write that sentence tbh. ;) Is it possible they dyed his hair for "Joking Apart"?

Yes, thank God the hairdresser had given up using an entire bottle of gel in a vain attempt to subdue Chris's curls by the end of the first show. :p

It doesn't look like it was dyed, no. And yet if you look at his later (late 90s/early aughts) work, it's even lighter without being grey/white. How does hair work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
