That was ... what's the word, the most touching, episode, of Red Dwarf I think may exist? Besides perhaps "Blue," in the sense of self-examination and coming to an understanding. I love how Lister's perception of how fast he got over his own midlife crisis dovetails with Rimmer's point that denying a midlife crisis is a key component of having one - we know of course that Lister's midlife crisis lasted MUCH longer. (And I guess maybe Rimmer's happened while he was off being Ace; what a fun time THAT must have been. Is Cat's version still to come because he's the youngest?)

(Which makes me realize something: Lister's not mentioned Kochanski once in five episodes, when he was bringing her up in nearly every episode of X. Hmm. I don't know what to make of that.)

It feels like Kryten's little monologue was a nice little declaration of family among the four of them - that they all love one another, in their fashion, and this is how Kryten is able to come up with this conclusion, having lived in the middle of it for a few decades.

Better look at part of Lister's PJs. His pants are also arted up! I wonder if the official RD shop will ever sell these - it seems like it's something that could be a requested item. They could be marketed to rural America, for those people who like to hit the frozen foods section of Walmart in the same thing they wear to bed later on.

Perhaps part of Lister's mid life crisis was to tell himself 'enough' over chasing Kochanksi. After all, he's now quite prepared to go into stasis for god knows how long, in potentially the complete opposite direction, in order to find another mech.

I would be so happy if the show directly addressed this.
