Assessing the fandom.

Must not converse with [livejournal.com profile] cheezdanish about Mary Sues.

Note: You needn't answer all questions if you don't want to. Please try not to go too nuts with the tickyboxes. Anyone voting 'Kryten' for any question will be subject to Funny LooksTM.

Ok, just to get this straight ::g::
You want to find out what everyones favourite Mary Sue fantasy is?
Personally I never have those, my interest in slash is fantasising about the boys relationship. And frankly, no matter how much I love the idea of Rimmer/Lister, I would never want to have a relationship with any of those two dysfunctional nutcases myself (meant in the nicest possible way...)
Now if you had used actors instead of characters - but that would be OT I guess...
As for the question of a crush - in what way is having an unrequited crush on one person preferable to having it on another? D**n nuisanse anyway...

[identity profile] lady-draco.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
I could never have Rimmer as FWB. *shakes head* Listy, however, most definitely =0)

[identity profile] lady-draco.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
Aye ... Yes. I agree there. I don't think you could have a fling with Rimmer for fear of hurting the poor man. But he's a long term bloke, definitely. Someone to work on.

For a shag every so often, it'd be Lister *nod*. Unless of course he is shagging Mr Rimmer. Then I won't push it :)

[identity profile] nessaancalime.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe push it in order to get a peek ;-)

[identity profile] nessaancalime.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, that I could answer easily. And yes, I think the winner is pretty certain. The one thing that always tells me this series is written by men, is that they really think Rimmer would have problems getting laid ;-)

[identity profile] smeg4brains.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
...You know, I'm going to pretend that you did not include King Smug Git of Pratland on ANY of these lists.

((s'up Lauren? :D))

[identity profile] kahvi.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Do I even need to fill this in?
;)

TICKYBOXES!!!

[identity profile] beetle-breath.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd have a one night stand with the teeny Kochanski because her accent is hot, but I don't know the actress's name, so I put the Cat.

(That's another thing about nu-Kochanski that bugs me, she grows liek, fifty feet! It's like if Bridette Nealson decided to cosplay me.)

[identity profile] kirstyfromflat5.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to confess..I voted Lister for pretty much everything. I can't help it, he's hot!

[identity profile] roadstergal.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)

Now if you had used actors instead of characters

I'll second you on all of that. You know, Kryten probably is the best of the bunch, trademark and all. :D

[identity profile] roadstergal.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to say... :)

You know, I would probably get along best with Kochanski II. But I get the feeling that she's hopelessly straight.

[identity profile] roadstergal.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll take an unrequited crush on Ace and a one-night stand with Kochanski Grogan. Kochanski Annett for the rest.

[identity profile] nessaancalime.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Was, until he became a mean, deranged psychotic in season VII.

[identity profile] kahvi.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah, it's the opposite in my case. Heh. Though yes, I wouldn't mind Kryten in any of his incarnations. *braces self for Funny Looks(TM)*

[identity profile] kahvi.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. She feels oddly... I dunno, asexual to me. I'm not really into prim and proper. Lovely actress though; the character I can take or leave.

[identity profile] jaclynhyde.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Despite being straight, I picked Grogan!Kochanski for a serious relationship; as much as I love the boys, there's no way I'd be able to stand dating them... :P

Besides, if Kochanski's taken, that makes Rimmer/Lister just that much easier!

[identity profile] roadstergal.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It's kinda funny - Rimmer, personality-wise, reminds me strongly of two other fictional sticks-in-the-mud; Frank Burns of MASH and Steven Hauk of Good Morning, Vietnam - and those two are not beset by fangirls in the same way. I love all three on the interesting-slime-character level (especially Hauk; Bruno Kirby did a fantastic job with him, as per the general standard of acting in that movie), but those two are not beset with fangirls in the way Rimmer is. I think it's Mr. Barrie. [livejournal.com profile] kahvi and I have discussed his Aceish qualities. He does make even confirmed heterosexuals very interested.

[identity profile] roadstergal.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
True dat, although he'd still be better than VIII or I Rimmer.

[identity profile] roadstergal.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there was that short period where he had the last chicken in the shop stashed in his slacks.

(DNA-Kryten just kills me.)

[identity profile] roadstergal.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, she likes opera, can fly a spaceship, makes her own clothes, and has strong feelings about personal hygiene. I'm there.

[identity profile] roadstergal.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I have strong feelings about breath and BO. Up until VII, I'd have problems with Lister. He cleans up in VII and VIII, for no reason that is explained in the show.

I'd go for Spanners, though. Or Rimmer's first officer in the mirror universe - although he's shagging Rimmer, so he's not free.

[identity profile] nessaancalime.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It is without doubt Mr. Barrie. I agree Frank Burns having a similar personality, but he just isn't CUTE ::g::
It is actually quite a feat to take this neurotic gittish character and make him still vulnerable enough that you feel sorry for him even in his worst moments.
I can't stand Ace, so I have problems finding him attractive, but you gotta love Chris in that outfit.

[identity profile] nessaancalime.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Additional: Frank Burns is in a way proof that gits can get laid. There is plenty of woman who will take the git to bed if he is attractive (and clean, Lister!), and those who will love the fact that they have the upper hand (like Hotlips), or will see him as a rehabilitation project, women tend to like that. Holoship really supports that - someone capable of taking initiative grabs him immediately.
But it is likely that men writing will think that he cannot get women, while not realising that a lot of women will not like a type like Ace at all, that is a type other men admire.
