That just killed me! He was dragged away as Kochanski was falling - I felt so bad for him. That's a loose end I've been dithering with adressing in a fanfic.

It would have been okay if he had just been an asshole who was like "Oh well, so what!" But he was ready to throw himself after her! And then it would have been just him, Cat and Kryten. No Rimmer to keep him sane...That Red Dwarf crew did just look so..cool though.

You know, this aspect of Alt!Kochanski and Alt!Lister has always worried me. I think there's a fic coming there. I mean, Rimmer and Lister influenced one another in subtle ways, and were perhaps the better for it... But the sort of complete turn-around this Lister seems to have done for his Kochanski? It seems to be entirely one-sided, and that is not a good thing.

That's a good point, indeed. I mean, some imbalance is normal; Rimmer changed more than Lister, IMO, as Rimmer was more fecked at the beginning - but it just doesn't seem like Kochanski adapted to Lister at all. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

There just seems to be an implication of superiority there which I don't like. Yes, Lister has some dubious personal habits that could do with changing, but when it comes to apreciating opera and things like that... Being open to new things and apreciating a wide range of for example music is a very good thing, but I rather got the impression that he turned his back on his old interests, which is not good. It's like he has to change to meet her standards. Well, if that's the case, then she's not attracted to him at all, is she? She just wants someone to dress up to fit her ideals.

Ja - now, if she turned him on to opera, and he turned her on to Rasta Billy Skank, that would be something different...

It's like 'our' Lister has more integrity. He wants to get into her pants, and he'll bend a bit, but he won't become a different person to do it.

Interesting that Ace was more open to Lister's interests than Kochanski II. :)

Yeah, that's an important part of Lister's character, for me; his integrity. He doesn't appologize for or try to hide who he is ("Occupation?" *considers, shrugs* "Bum.") nor does he try to be someone he is not. And he seems to dislike other people who does that kind of thing; consider his reaction to Kryten's transformation in DNA. I wonder what he'd say to Alt!Lister when he realized what he was like?

I really do think Kochanski I was different; they watched movies together and ate in bed, after all. I can't see Kochanski II doing that...

Oh, ja, no question they were different. Kochanski I would have been a good partner for Lister.
