Now I'm just being squicked by the Doyleverse in general.

Wanna know something? I squick for incest too. But somehow, when roadstergal is writing with me, it works. She has this way of making everything accessible and fascinating, even if you inherently dislike it.

You know, it's funny - most of the only children I know are much more squicked by incest than those with siblings I know. I would never sleep with any of my sibs, but I'm fine with incest as long as it's goodfic. I wonder if that's a general tenent...

I don't know. All I know is that I squick for incest because my ex abused his little sister.

I was abused by an extended family member when I was little, and did the counseling thing and all later in life, but it still doesn't squick me in general. Maybe that is sick and wrong. *spreads hands helplessly*

Then again, I was only thinking of consenting adult incest when I wrote the above. Kiddie sex, incest or not, does squick me. I guess that'd be my distinction.

Consent is the key word here, I wholeheartedly agree. Incest is a loaded word; in Norwegian the word has come to mean sexual abuse of children by family members almost exclusively. I'm sure the same is true of other languages and cultures too.

Maybe it's a way of coping for you.

I think, though, that at least on a fandom level, m/m or f/f incest is more acceptable than m/f, and I think it's because you don't get deformed babies out of slash or femmeslash (although I also think that it's probably been written somewhere).

I don't seek it out or make it a point to write it, though - I just don't have a problem with reading it as long as it's goodfic. And I realy don't have any lingering issues with the event itself.

I quite agree, although consenting adult m/f incest-ers could also certainly make the rational choice to not procreate.
