Drabble: Fresh Meat - R/m - PG

Title: Fresh Meat
Rating: PG
Pairing: Rimmer/Male
Disclaimer: I do not now, nor have I ever, owned Red Dwarf. Nor do I make any money from this fannish venture.
No spoilers - pre-series.
Notes: Drabble - 100 words, exactly.

Rimmer sipped his drink in the bar outside the JMC recruitment facility.

"Fresh meat, huh?" Asked the man who had given him the drink.

"Just signed up," Rimmer mumbled. Alcohol warmed his esophagus all the way down, and as Rimmer looked at the man - tan, athletic, promising smile - the heat pooled into his groin. At once, Rimmer realized two things. One, he fancied men, which was depraved and filthy, and two, no one in this place cared.

This wasn't Io. He'd be allowed to be gay here. He could...

Yelping, Rimmer leapt from his chair, running out into the darkness.

Oh wow, I love this. I love this sentence best:

One, he fancied men, which was depraved and filthy, and two, no one in this place cared. - especially the "depraved and filthy" bit, I can really hear Rimmer there and I love it.

Really really good. Enviably good :)

Oh, that is just the definition of a drabble, isn't it? 100 words to carry the essence of Arnold Judas Rimmer. Brava!

I agree with Rachel. Filthy.

It all explains why he's so hung up on telling Lister he had heterosexual intercourse. Very straight heterosexual intercourse. Just like straight men have.

No safety net. I can sure relate to this.
Nice job :)

I feel a bit shy commenting here since I'm new (to the comm and RD), but it was too good for shyness to stop me. It's been ages since I've read such an effective drabble. It doesn't just pack a punch, but it tells such a rich and complete story as well. You picked the absolute perfect details to make it work. Love it. ♥

Thanks! :) Do I absolutely have to stop you, because I could really super use something to distract me from my Latin prose comp homework tonight if you were to want to rec stuff. <_<;

Oh, I think I've read a bit of [livejournal.com profile] roadstergal's stuff already and liked it. Just, it was before I'd finished the series (er, a few days ago), and I kept getting confused. I ought to take another look. XD

Hm... I am most fixated on Rimmer--the original one, though all the other ones running about are all right--and Rimmer/Lister. I do enjoy angst and dark stuff quite a lot; especially things that really get into and test who the character is.

It's okay if you can't think of any specific ones to link, though! I'm mostly feeling out what the fandom's like (and read awesome fic as well), so I'm sure going through the fics of the folks you listed (and you) will be helpful already.

Thanks! I appreciate the help. :)

Ah heee!

That's my ol' Rimmer.

Lovely worky, chicky, to get it into a teeny, little wordcount. I approve and shall send a bottle of beer to you ASAP.

Lovely work. :)
