Hi, I'm Kat. I'm a lurker, or used to be anyway, seeing how I'm writing this right now. I watch Red Dwarf a lot, enjoy it a lot and enjoy slash in just about everything, so of course I enjoy Red Dwarf slash too. I read fanfic a lot, plot it a lot and write it close to never because I'm too obsessed with getting everything just right on the first try. And since that of course doesn't work I give up right away. Thanks to 1sentence I'm trying again, though, and it seems to be working well, so I figured I'd join this place now. I've been wanting more communities to procrastinate on, anyway. =^u.u^=

My favourite pairing's Lister/Rimmer, and it's what I'm writing too, but I'll read and enjoy just about anything since I'm of the school of thought nothing'd happen without getting ever so slightly AU anyway. And there's plenty enough universes around for everyone to shag or unrequitedly lust after everyone else. =^u.u^=

Should warn you though that since I procrastinate even on things I actually want to do, I'll probably post really irregularly... don't let it bother you. That being said, nice to meet you. =^n.n^=

I've just been traumatized by the kind of fangirls who insist that omg their pairing is actually happening in canon and no other one could possibly be true and they have PROOF. With the proof being as hugely specific as saying something that could be read another way, looking at each other or breathing the same air. Happened years ago, but I don't think I'll ever recover, meaning I can only imagine non-canon pairings happening in AUs with so little difference they're practically the same. Not that it really makes a difference in the end...

Thankfully, I was fortunate to have my first fandom experience within alt.startrek.creative.erotica.moderated, which is host to a great bunch of talented and mature people, and I've never really experienced the phenomenon first hand. I feel your pain.

I've never really understood that attitude. See, I'm a canon freak. I need things in my fics to fit into canon, or my brain starts to hurt. Which means I rarely write very unlikely pairings, unless it's a joke or parody. So I try my very, absolute best to try to make my stories - and ships - fit into canon. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't, but I do try. But I ship Lister/Rimmer AND Lister/Kochanski, so yeah.

I should also add that the above is the standards I apply to my own fic, not anyone elses. I enjoy all manner of RD fics! :)

Mmh, stories that make a pairing fit into canon is a much different thing than the insistence that said pairing already exists in canon. I really enjoy those, if just because it takes a lot of skill to pull that off and make it seem like it could actually happen between scenes or episodes. I do like strange or unlikely pairings - with Red Dwarf Lister/Ace is my pet one - but not as something that's meant to fit into canon, more as a try if it can be made to work at all. That's how I'd probably regard it if I wrote one myself, too.

I was considering a Lister/Ace with hints of unrequited Lister/Rimmer at one point, actually, but thanks to a combination of laziness and perfectionism that never got anywhere... I'm just gonna beat my 1sentence themes through now and see if I find myself able to write anything longer after that.

Mmh, I got it off a piece of chinese brocade. It's more amazing, from my view, because it originally had a black background. That was some work =^x.x^= And sure, go ahead. Don't need to credit, all I did was capping, lightening, cropping and resizing, which is hardly a great artistic effort.

Ja, as to the above conversation... I have my own notions of pairings that I love, of course, but I have read so many unlikely pairings that were written so well that I can't really discount any pairings anymore. So my standard is not is-it-a-pairing-I-like, but is-it-well-written. The closer someone can get to canon with an unlikely slash pairing, the more I love him or her. :D :D

That's a great way of putting it. Sure, there's pairings I have to take as... well, not as what-if, since that's what all fanfiction is when you get down to it, but maybe something that could happen somewhere, rather than something that did happen somewhere, if that makes any sense. But there's only very few if any I'd outright refuse to read.
