Intriguing Tweet From Doug Naylor (Very Mild Spoiler)

In response to a question on Twitter, Doug Naylor confirmed that something which has bothered fans for years will be answered in the new series.

A fan asked "Is Rimmer in the new ones the hologram of the resurrected Rimmer in Series 8 or the one who became Ace?"

Doug replied "Watch RDX and all will be revealed in Show 6".

It probably is "our" Rimmer, but I'm glad we'll finally know. :)

Unless it's a third kind of Rimmer altogether. Could be he was somehow rebooted from the original disc (or the disc of whatever Red Dwarf they were on in BTE) and somehow obtained the memories of his time with them in S1-7. (Normally I'd go with Occam's razor and say it's Arn-Ace-Arn, but when have Doug or Rob ever been about the simplest explanation? LOL)

Holo!Rimmer left with the Hard Light Lightbee, though. So that argument would have to explain where they got another Hard Light Lightbee from. They couldn't have ran into Legion again... and Legion said "he" invented Hard Light technology.


BtE!Arnie knows WAY too much, though, and acts less series eight. He's too brave at the end for it to be anybody but "our" Arnie. It has to be Holo!Arnie back from being Ace. It has to be.

I love that "our" Holo Rimmer has grown so much, that he can be the only one brave enough. I just love the "original" Hologram Rimmer. <3 <3 <3

But it's true. He grew and changed so much because of what happened to him but also what Lister gave him in the sense of friendship. :-)

Gee, I guess for the benefit of our outside readers allergic to such things, we'd probably better specify that many of us, if not all, aren't figuring that Rimmer came back from being Ace to live in carnal sin with Lister. ;-)

I'm going to guess it IS the original Rimmer hologram simply because of remarks he made in BTE (if this is immediately pre- or post-BTE) suggesting things he knew from events in those first several seasons. It's not conclusive evidence, but it's more fun for me to imagine this group has all been together for the better part of 20-some years.

Yes, I want it to be the original Rimmer too. He's the one we saw grow and change over 7 seasons.

TOS has had numerous arguments about this, but the consensus seems to be that Series X is definitely post-BTE. It's the only timeframe that makes sense, really.

Yeah, when talking about the despair squid, they didn't have to stop and fill Rimmer in, so I'm hoping it's our original. *fingers crossed*
