Gestalt Fic Ahoy

Title: Spanners - Part I
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] kahvi and [livejournal.com profile] roadstergal
Rating: PG-13 (For this part.)
Pairing: Alternate Ace/Alternate Spanners, Rimmer/Lister implications.
Spoilers: The End, Dimension Jump, Terrorform, Legion, Emohawk, Stoke Me A Clipper, Blue, Nanarchy, Only The Good - pretty much spoilers for the show as a whole.

This takes place after the end of VIII. A followup, of sorts, to Return and Back, although reading them is not necessary to understanding this story.

"Good old Spanners, eh?"

Stupid, stupid, stupid! *wallops them both*
I can only hope Spanners will sort them out. Silly....

Great story guys. I was waiting to see how you would continue that story arc, and look: more angst!
Can't wait for the next bit.

Isn't it amazing, the amount of angst this comedy science fiction show can inspire us to produce? This one has been heaps of fun to write though.

Glad you've enjoyed it so far, thanks for feeding us back. :)

I've thoght abot this some. I think angst works so well with the show, cause you get to explore things that the writers can hint at or mention, but can never fully explore because of time constrains, or the need to keep the comedy going, they can't let a sad moment linger for too long.
On the other hand with more 'serious' shows there's a fair amount of angst in there already, so it's hard to write any more without it getting ridiculosly out of hand.
So it's comedy fics for drama and angst fic for comedy. Or something. Whatever.

The drama makes the humor stand out more, and vice-versa. Terry Prachett says he inserts "tragic relief" into his stories, which I've always felt is true for Red Dwarf too.

Mort (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0552131067/qid=1149613554/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_3_2/202-6015408-3175027) is generally considered to be a good starter book. It was mine. :)

Pratchett is an RD fan. I don't think that's without significance.

It's been ages since i've been reading something and have gotten so into it that it's been a jarring experience when the page won't scroll down any further =\
