Red Dwarf Homage on Stargate Atlantis?
Mar. 7th, 2008 11:37 pmThe season finale of Stargate Atlantis, which aired tonight in the United States, had many fans connecting the dots between McKay and Sheppard and coming up, surprisingly, with Rimmer and Lister when John passed through a wormhole during a solar flare and was transported 48,000 years into the future, where his only companion was, you guessed it: a hologram of Rodney.
The part that amuses me the most is that it brings to light more parallels between the pairings. There is, of course, the love/hate relationships (though Rimmer/Lister, in canon, tends more toward the hate side than McKay/Sheppard) but more specifically, there is the fact that McShep is arguably the most popular pairing in the SGA fandom, and R/L is arguably the most popular pairing in RD fandom.
I can't help wondering if the Stargate writers were aware it's our anniversary. :)
