Drawer

He would tell him today. Quick, clean and clinical – that was the key. A good first impression could alter the course of any doomed initiative, he reminded himself. This was not an afterlife-altering conversation, merely a bit of strategy.

Hair neatly trimmed for battle, he cleared his throat.

Lister continued polishing his space bike.

“Listy…”

No reaction.

“…I’ve been thinking.”

Lister scoffed quietly.

“And, the thing is,… it really should be up to you…”

Lister raised an eyebrow.

Rimmer sighed, and blurted it out. “Kochanski’s disk is in my top sock drawer.”

Lister grinned. “I know. Found it months ago.”

 

 

            Waiting

The man was a time bomb. An enormous, rippling mass of pending disaster. And Arnold couldn’t help sneaking worried glances.

            “Yeh know, I can feel yer eyes on me,” Lister said irritatedly, not looking up from his comic. “Yeh can stop. I’m not gonna explode.”

            Rimmer held back the obvious comment, unconvinced.

            “Not long now,” Lister said fondly, placing a hand over his abdomen where Bexley wriggled and kicked his brother.

            Another kick, harder. Painful. Lister winced.

            Rimmer jumped up, eyes wide with fear.

            “Oh god, was that…?”

            Lister took one look at his face and doubled over.

            In laughter.
