Just a quick (hopefully not tedious) intro post. Thanks to Netflix I just watched the entire series a couple weeks ago when I was off work sick. It was on PBS when I was a child but I refused to watch it because it had knocked Blackadder off the air, but I finally decided my long term grudge against it was silly. Now I'm thinking for my birthday next month I'll see if I can't secure the complete series because it is so awesome.

I didn't anticipate making it a fandom when I was watching it. Even though it is spectacularly slashy I just didn't think I'd want to read any. But I thought the same thing about Jeeves and Wooster.... Anyway, hooray that this comm exists! Now I'm off to re-watch some series 1.

Instant is freaking awesome. But they didn't have Back to Earth on Instant! I got to the end and had a little panic attack when I realized I'd have to wait 2 days!!! to watch the end.

Then I watched BTE and realized it wasn't quite The End so much as a little sort of coda. It was the only ep my brother watched despite a week of my raving, and he thought it was really weird. Couldn't really argue with him there. I kept stopping it and saying, "If you'd watched the show that would be totally hilarious right now."

Yeah, I don't really know what episode to recommend to people who say "what is that?" to give them a fair notion of the show. All of them are humorous. The pilot seems an obvious one, since it explains the basic premise, but there are far funnier/cuter/empathetic episodes that nonetheless require some advance understanding of details that I don't want to overload the person by explaining so they "get" what they're seeing. (I guess "Backwards" is always good, as anyone can understand that premise and it's easy laughs.)

I know exactly what you mean; I grew up watching the show m'self, but writing slash for it was just the furthest thing from my mind. Then... well... it sneaked up on me. And I've never looked back! :D

Ha, I'll always remember how I first discovered the show: on PBS, I tuned in about 10 minutes into "Camille". I didn't know a) who these characters where b) why or where they were in space or c) how they encountered this creature, but I found it really interesting and funny and enjoyable and was hooked. And if that's not a sign of a good show, I don't know what is!
