Don't I ever stop?... Nope. (C/L)
Dec. 2nd, 2005 10:29 pmTitle: With
Summary: It’s not just a consolation.
Disclaimer: Not mine.
I’m sorry! I know most people like longer fics, but tonight I saw ‘Beyond a Joke’ for the first time and things progressed from there! Enjoy anyway…? (Set after Series 8; no explanation for how this occurs, but don't say you weren't warned).
It’s hard to ignore Cat when he wants, or is even giving, some attention.
His eyes not meeting the feline’s, Lister stares out of one of Red Dwarf’s windows, digesting the thoughts of the sudden changes in his life that seem to swiftly pounce on him, one by one, before he can control anything. Kochanski has gone back to ‘her Dave’, which, by Lister’s standards, is fine as he’s beyond the point of caring. The rest of them are back on an empty Red Dwarf that does not contain the same homely feeling as before.
And for someone like Lister, it hurts.
But when Cat walks around to his other side, and uses one hand to gently turn Lister’s face towards him, Lister feels a stab of emotion somewhere inside him that he knows for a fact is not just plain lust. As Cat puts his mouth close to his ear and starts whispering to him, using words like ‘alright’, ‘here’ and ‘bed’, his tension dissipates and the furrow on his brow that is in danger of becoming permanent unknots as he kisses the Cat’s neck softly. Pulling him close, arms sliding around the slim waist, all the feverish thought and discontent that has burdened the human suddenly seems to dissolve under Cat’s touch.
Whether he’s with many things he doesn’t want or without the many things he does, Lister knows that he’s with Cat.
And it’s not just a consolation. It’s special.
Fin.
