I have a question, and this is the best place to ask, so here I am.

At the end of Season II, did Lister and Rimmer move their quarters? I think they did, as evidenced by the new look and the shower addition, but there isn't any confirmation by the show itself. What deck level were their original quarters on, and what deck level are they on now? Also, where does the Cat live?

Also, how do they go up and down decks? I know about the lifts, but are there ladders or something? (I think there would be, in case the ship lost power (like in White Hole.)

There's no rush, but I would like some clarification for a a fic I'm writing.

Thanks!

The Cat, I assume, continues to live in the old Cat City. As to the quaters we just all assume they moved to officers quaters--there is no explaination that i'm aware of. As to ladders, I think from Lister's romp through the ship in the 'everybodies dead, Dave.' scene in the first episode, that it's safe to assume there are ladders, stairs and catwalks everywhere. He starts off in the status area, after all, and somehow makes it to the Drive Room that way.

I think the short answer is "yes". ;)

Grant/Naylor weren't too picky with continnuity, if it meant they could improve things. Hence, things would change thought the series without being explained. Personally, I just make things up as I go along when it comes to facts like these, based on what I think fits canon (and my purposes) best.

Oh, and Cat, like all Cats, lives wherever he damn well wants to, or at least that's what I figure!

Lister's double appendix... Rimmer's hard light uniform in The Locker Room Game... CP-Kochanski not being resurrected in VIII... Rimmer's gazillion means of projection in early series... plenty more where that came from. ;)

At least a slightly increased number compared to previous episodes still makes some kind of sense, since he could have taken it again offscreen. Though I figure it's not easy to take an exam when you're dead... But the lower ones, or hugely increased ones, really don't make sense. Unless he's actually stopped caring and started forgetting the precise number. Whether that's likely would depend on what series it's said in, I guess.

At least once in III, you see that their swanky new white quarters are labeled "Officers' Quarters." So I assume they upgraded. That move, staying together, has always been slashy for me.

As you say, they still can move along decks in White Hole, although it takes scads of time, so I'm assuming stairs or ramps, but it's never explicitly stated.

The only time we ever see Cat sleep is in Emohawk. I think it's purposely kept ambiguous, since he's a Cat, and cats sleep where they please. ;)

I seem to recall there's stairs in the intro to the series III/IV/V/probably VI too DVDs, though that's not the actual series... and I kind of assumed there'd be some kind of maintenance tubes that doubled for the latter case, though that's probably influenced by Star Trek. We did see something of the likes on Starbug in Duct Soup though, so Red Dwarf itself might be the same, and I figured that whatever way Lister used to get to the Cat temple in Waiting for God was something similar too...

I probably saw the bit where he kicks open some sort of air vent and goes through it and from there assumed it was all some sort of maintenence whatevers. It's been a bit since I watched that episode...

I thought that they'd moved into Kochanski's quarters between Seasons 2 and 3 (now where did I hear that...? I think it must have been an interview somewhere... wish I could remember which one...).

I remember that the interviewee was saying that the officer's quarters they had moved into were Kochanski's. I don't think there was any real on-screen evidence for it, though. But I'll see if I can find the interview.
