First of all, I should point out that I loathe Ace Rimmer. Can't say why, but the guy gets under my skin like nothing else. Thereore, I have studiously avoided watching "Dimension Jump" and "Stoke Me a Clipper" for quite some time now.
However, my dad and brother and I (the Red Dwarf fans in the family - Mom doesn't care for it so much) recently embarked on a mission to watch every single episode in roughly chronological order. We've gotten through the first four seasons. So I, much to my chagrin, had to watch "Dimension Jump" again.
The last time I'd seen "Dimension Jump" before this was years and years ago, back when I was young and innocent.
Therefore, it's completely understandable that I missed out on the slashiness of - let's see - THE ENTIRE EPISODE - until now.
Rimmer is so jealous.
I had privately enjoyed the thought of ListerxRimmer before then (somehow I doubt anyone else in the family would appreciate it), but this has cemented my fandom, so I figured I'd actually join this community now.
(My name's Erin, by the way. Pleased to meet you all ^_^)

Welcome to the slash-dom!

Date: 2008-01-03 03:55 am (UTC)I picked up the rest of the series on DVD for Christmas, I just got done re-watching season four, and it must be... ahaha, now I think about it it's been far longer than I want to consider since I last saw Dimension Jump, eek.
ANYWAY, THE POINT OF THIS COMMENT IS: I AGREE WITH THIS. In fact, me re-watching the entire series now is the first time I've really watched Red Dwarf since my brain went slashy, so the whole thing is given a brand new layer I'd never considered before XD (thus how I ended up browsing posts here...)

Date: 2008-01-03 04:57 am (UTC)My dad got the whole box set not long ago. The Rimmer-Lister relationship is surprisingly sweet even in the early episodes. (I think it's Series II in which they always seem to be going up to the top of the ship and having heartfelt talks while looking at the stars. Aww.)
(Bonus: the more I think about it, the more Rimmer/Lister reminds me of "Stephen"/Jon. The angry, uptight overachiever who could use a hug, and the laid-back nice guy who's willing to give one. Perhaps I am a sucker for this type of pairing. I shall have to think on it.)
