Okay, I'll send an invite from the group to your Hotmail address, because then you should be able to sign up with that address without needing the Yahoo account.

Can you login to Yahoo with your Yahoo ID? If so, you should be able to go to the page called My Yahoo and add your Hotmail address as a secondary email, then change your group membership settings to send group mail to that address.
