Date: 2006-08-25 05:54 pm (UTC)I know what you mean about SMAC. My conseptions of how it can all turn out are pretty bleak as well. That's probably why the story made me so sad.
You wrote a story that made me cry. It's not that easy. So well done you!

I. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
The last line killed me, along with Lister...oh, Lister...*cries*

Date: 2006-08-27 09:45 pm (UTC)Well, it was all the Ace-talk that brought that one out. I'll see if I can write some happyfic. Trouble is, my fanfic100 claim is not fertile ground for happyfic. But I might write a little Rimmer/Rachel. ;)
*blush* Thank ye!

Date: 2006-08-28 05:36 pm (UTC)I really did love this one, you know, despite everything. It's the sheer dramance (there, I said it) of it all. Very powerful.

*siiiiiggghhhh*
I love Cat coming on to Ace.
He did not relish the thought of a flight with them in the back,
Oh really? Why does Lister cooing over Kochanski make you uneasy then?
He reached up and turned Rimmer's head slightly, looking searchingly at the right side of his face.
That's a really great scene. Felt like I was there.
Great Lister, overall. My poor boy. :(
Whatta guy, whatta guy, whatta guy, he repeated to himself as he lay on the cot and pulled Lister on top of him, the words losing all meaning in repetition. They formed a monotone mantra in the back of his mind
*siiiighhhh*
Wonderful, sweet sex scene. So emotional. So - yes - dramantic. And though wrong, so coldly, mercilessly right, even so.

"Can't I have just a little denial?"
Ja, I really felt a strong desire to write this from Rimmer's POV, and he wouldn't know that Lister was looking for a scar - wouldn't know that Lister was looking for 'his' Rimmer at all, until tea.
Aww, thanks, ma'am!

Date: 2006-09-07 04:31 pm (UTC)Yes, the whole 'dimensional alternates' thing is a bit of RD canon that I find highly disturbing, on a number of levels, and I wanted to play with that a bit. Especially the idea of an alternate being a replacement for the original, which you get, somewhat, at the end of Rob Grant's Backwards - but the show seemed to do the idea a bit more justice.
Kat has said - and I agree - that the hard-light Lister we see in Oroborous has really changed a lot for Kochanski II, and she did not seem to make allowances for him, which makes it an unbalanced relationship. In some ways, 'our' Lister has more integrity...
I think it's a fundamental Rimmer thing to be neurotic and dissatisfied, regardless of whether you're Ace or Arn. :)
