I had a mental image, and did not know what to do with it - until a conversation in
kahvi's journal.
Gapfiller for Nanarchy. Spoilers up to there.

Simply Gorgeous
Date: 2006-09-16 10:15 pm (UTC)BTW, just a minor criticism, and I hope this is the place to put it. I think the following two paragraphs could be worked into one. The repetition of the visuals threw me out of the story for a moment. I've _indicated_ the words that were particularly distracting.
"The nanobots worked faster than he thought was physically possible - but they were hyper-advanced technology, weren't they? As he watched, the flashing red lights faded to nothing in a broad strip that swept around the ring, leaving in its wake a smaller, but still mind-bendingly vast, _rectangular brassy structure_. As it was made of the same material as the coffins, it reflected the light of the distant red sun in a ruddy yellow glow along one side, disappearing into blackness in the shadow of the planet.
It could not have been much more than an hour before the pulsing red ring was gone. And in its place was a _boxy structure_, curved into a ring around the planet; a hall, full of... Lister did not let himself think. He'd jinx it, he was sure. Instead, he rushed to the exit hatch, wondering how the smeg he would get his suit on with one smegging arm."

And I seem to find the happiness I seek
I've got several million Rimmer's cheek to cheek!
Been looking forward to this one - glad to see it! :)
As usual, much love. I would have liked some more details, and perhaps a slower build-up (look, I'm trying to concrit; it's hard!), but then again I've already written a version of this scenario in my mind, and I'm probably comparing it to that. And, of course, it is a dream, which would impact the telling of it. (See? Hard.)
I love the detail of his arm not being fixed before he did this. It's a lovely touch.
Can I just say that I really like the word "miasma"?
This one had very green eyes and a hard-planed, unscarred face.
I'd get slightly distracted in this room, I think.
OMGWTF "Spanky". Mmffph...
He grabbed two that were snogging, pulled them apart, then pushed them back together. Not his Rimmer, either of them.
This was a surprise??
Rimmer's head dropped, and Lister pressed his lips to the hologram's, running his tongue along the man's lips.
This is where I started getting suspicious. It's never that easy!
"Lucky bastard," one muttered. "Which one?"
*giggle*
Heee - turtleneck!
Nicely done, ma'am!

Date: 2006-09-16 10:41 pm (UTC)For some reason, I thought it was important to have him do this before he gets his arm fixed. ;)
Well, of course. Anyone is going to get distracted in that room! *boggle*
He has the silliest nicknames for Lister... and that's not even getting into the whole squirrel thing.
Nah, it's like in the dream in Blue. Rimmer would never be that easy to turn to reality in real life. ;)

Date: 2006-09-17 06:38 am (UTC)And Lister tries desparately to find a way to make things right - your doings Listy, you have to live with it...

Date: 2006-09-17 07:34 am (UTC)It's a very lister thing to do, bring back all the Aces to find his own. Kinda fits in with the whole Cloister/God thing.

Date: 2006-09-17 05:30 pm (UTC)Heh, good point - he kinda has this love/hate relationship going on with the godlike things he sometimes accidentally does, doesn't he?

Date: 2006-09-17 05:32 pm (UTC)It's kind of a natural followup to Blue, isn't it? "He'll come back, eventually, if he's still around. Oh, smeg, he hasn't come back, has he?"
