You love him Lister, there’s no point in denying it. Why else would you watch him secretly at any given opportunity? Why else would your heart beat that bit faster when he’s near you, when you can smell his aftershave or feel his shoulder brush yours when he walks by? Why would you purposely wind him up, just so he’ll notice you, just so he’ll raise his voice the way he does and turn you on? What is it about him Lister? Why can’t you tell him?
Is there shame in loving another man, is that what you think, an enlightened 23rd century guy like you? Is it wrong to want to hold him, kiss him and be with him and feel his breath against your neck? Is it strange that love and hate can be so intimately intertwined, so that you can’t tell the difference anymore? Ambivalence I believe it’s called, not an easy emotion to control.
What would Cat and Kryten say, and would it even matter? More importantly, how would Rimmer react if you told him, Lister, what do you think he would do?
You know what you’d want him to do, you’d want him to pull you close to him and kiss you with a groan. You want him to steal your breath away and make your heart race. You know what you want him to do, Lister, you’ve thought about it a hundred times. You’re thinking about it now, after all this time, you still think about him. You miss him Lister. You had your chance and you blew it. He’s gone now, your too late. He’s Ace now, not Rimmer, and thinking about him won’t bring him back.
There’s not point losing sleep over it Lister, just go back to bed. Stop staring at his bunk and wondering and fantasising about what could have been. Maybe you’ll be lucky, he might visit you in your dreams, you could tell him you miss him and want him back. You could tell him Kochanski means nothing to you compared to him, she doesn’t hold a candle to him. You hardly notice her anymore.
He loved you too Lister, you know damn well he did. He never said anything, but his eyes told you a million times. He never told you Lister, because Rimmer was scared, scared that you’d laugh at him or abandon him. You could have told him it was alright, that you loved him too, but you didn’t, and do you know why? You’re a coward too.
