A ficathon is basically when a load of people get together and write stories for one another based on the prompts they give (and often not knowing who they're writing for) and all post them on a given day. The most-often used format is when people sign up saying what they're willing to write and what they'd like to receive in return, and the ficathon organizers assign the prompts to the authors accordingly.
Excellent! Much appreciated. If I go ahead with this I'll post a call for betas a bit after assignments go out, don't let me forget you've volunteered.
You shouldn't have to worry too much; I'll be doing sign-ups with prompts and handing them out. Sometimes it's easier to get the creative juices going with a kick in the pants.
well when the new laptop arrives (that was supposed to be delivered today grumble grumble) and I start my maternity leave I'll see what this old brain can do.
Naturally I'm in, my darling. I picked the slash/het/gen option because although we're the slash comm, we know there are people here who will join in the writing if there are het options.
While we're doing modly things, I was also thinking of encouraging the old-school people to post older fics here if they haven't already; it would be another good way to recognise and celebrate the anniversary.
I personally would love to re-read some of the stories I downloaded back in the day, pasted into one long document, and tranferred it by floppy to my really old, non-internet-connected laptop, so I could read it in bed.
I have some feedback for those authors that has been a long time coming! :D
I'm gonna suggest creating a community just for the ficathon, because the "slash" in the comm title might put off the het and gen ficcers. If it's going to be all-inclusive, a more general community might be a good idea. :)
Yeah, I was thinking about either that, or running it out of my journal.
Meanwhile I'm still having a minor conniption that someone, for whatever reason, couldn't answer the first question, but answered the second one anyway. *headdesk* I really thought that with a two simple questions, each with two possible answers, I wouldn't manage to strike a vein of fail. I hate when I prove myself wrong.
You should obviously ban that person immediately! ;)
S/he probably thought it was a sort of commitment or something, more than a simple gauge of interest. Or infinitely more likely, s/he thought s/he chose an answer for the first one but clicked just outside of the circle. That's happened to me on LJ polls, but I know I can go back and resubmit.
Oh, I'd be so into this. YAY! I realize I'm a little late. Has it been started yet?
I'd probably write a short, horrid little piece cause I can't possibly be good at writing the wonderous crew of Red Dwarf. *lol* But, I'd be more than happy to beta as well if needed.

Date: 2008-03-04 10:00 pm (UTC)I wouldn't mind writing as long as the final peice can be flash-fiction length.

Date: 2008-03-05 12:34 pm (UTC)It was so hard to find enough of it though, so in the end I had to start writing myself. Can't say I've regretted that!
