I don't know how much truth there is to this, but thanks to phillyheat_1 for sharing it with the RDSS Yahoo group:

The BBC has apparently commissioned a new one-hour special episode of classic British sci-fi comedy "Red Dwarf" to be filmed October 2008 according to Robert Llewellyn at the KTCS9 20th Anniversary convention this evening.

I'm gonna be honest and say I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand the fangirl in me shrieks with unmitigated delight but I don't want to get too overexcited. Part of me thinks that it's been too long and dragging the cast back for a final cheesy episode might not be a very dignified ending for the show we all love so much. Also there's no mention that Rob Grant will be back on the writing team which would be disappointing as he was equally responsible for many of Dwarf's finest moments. However if I'm being pessimisstic and it turns out to be a really smashing final hurrah then, well...*drools with anticipation*...

He wouldn’t spoil the storyline, but did mention that Grant Naylor was finalising the script right now."
