Was Red Dwarf your first fandom? If not, what was?

How'd you get into Red Dwarf? Was this comm your first RD comm?

How'd you get into slash? Was this comm your first slash comm?

Did you come here via the RDSS Yahoo Group, or alternatively join the RDSS Yahoo Group after hearing about it here?

What's your RD slash OTP?

What's your RD slash favourite rarepair?

If you write slash as well as reading it, how did you get started? Were you inspired by RD, or another fandom? If you were inspired by RD, did anyone here start you down the slashing path?

Bonus points if I was personally responsible for popping your slash cherry. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

1) Harry Potter was first. But Dwarf was second!
2) My five years older sister introduced me into Red Dwarf (with Czech dubbing) when I was 13. And yes, this was my first RD comm.
3) I know that exactly. >>This community<< is actually responsible for me falling in love with slash. Specifically [livejournal.com profile] kahvi and [livejournal.com profile] hazeltea and their stories.
4) Nope. I was just passing by.
5) ListyRimmsy
6) I don't know. But I'd really love to read some young!Rimmer pairing.
7) Me me me! I started my slash journey with RD slash. Very good fandom to start with.

By far! I've been into Red Dwarf before I was even aware of what fandom was

I'd stay up on Saturday nights with my parents and watch all the BBC comedies on PBS.

I think I found the Yahoo group first. Think I found the comm through LJ's old, much more useful than the current, search engine

Lister/Rimmer

Don't really have one

Oh lord. Ummmm I know my friend got me into fanfic with a Babylon 5 fic, but I don't know when I actually started writing fic on my own.

1. By no means. I've technically been in fandoms since the age of 6; I just didn't know it at the time.

2. No, that was Saiyuki that started it off... and Jebus FORK, it has snowballed.

3. Actually, I was playing with Rule 34 after I saw Blue again, and stumbled upon the LJ comm.

4. R/L. I can't help it. They're just so deliciously snarky together.

5. You know, I've thought about it, and I don't really have one. Variations on the "new" Ace are really just R/L. I can't see Cat with anyone without corrective surgery, because I KNOW what male cats have on their dangly bits. Kryten doesn't have the right attachments. I suppose it would be sort of interesting to see Ackerman with R/L as dubcon, but that's a stretch.

6. It was ages ago, with Saiyuki. Someone opened the gate, and I was all O_O like the proverbial Lister in a curry shop. Now, it's pretty much all I write, with a few exceptions.

1. No, but I can't really remember what was. I'm another one that was in fandoms before I knew what they were.

2. My brother watched it when I was very small, so I was always aware of it's existence, but my boyfriend insisted that it was awesome and I should watch it about a year ago, so we started watching the dvds. Now I like it more than he does!

3. I got into slash through the My Chemical Romance fandom, I'm rather ashamed to admit. I keep those comms on my flist just for the lulz these days.

4. I actually stumbled upon it completely by accident. I was searching for RD comms in general, but I realised how much sense RD slash made, so I read a few fics and got hooked.

5. Rimmer/Lister. It just feels right.

6. I don't really have one. I just can't see Kryten or the Cat in a sexual way somehow, and I never really warmed to Kochanski's character.

7. I have written a few fics, but not in this fandom. I tried, but I just couldn't make it work for me.

Was Red Dwarf your first fandom? If not, what was?

God, no. Despite the fact that I've been watching RD since Primary School, it had never occurred to me to slash them until quite late. My first was Savage Garden. Good times...

How'd you get into Red Dwarf? Was this comm your first RD comm?

They've started showing this on my local channel so I've watched it.... and couldn't believe how LOLtastic it was. Every Sunday me and my dad would watch it together and just LOLOLOLOLOLOL. good times...

How'd you get into slash? Was this comm your first slash comm?

I didn't get into slash, the slash had always been in me. I'd watch a show, thinking "those two guys look hot together. I will create a story about them in my head. What a pity I am the only one like that in the whole wide world ;_;" *discovers internet* "Holy S!!! Not the only one!!!! :O" My first slash comm was ADM - A Deeper Meaning, a Savage Garden eGroup. Good times...

Did you come here via the RDSS Yahoo Group, or alternatively join the RDSS Yahoo Group after hearing about it here?

I'm so old, I still call them eGroups. But what was first? I DON'T REMEMBER!!! ^^; But I bet the times were good!

What's your RD slash OTP?

Rimmer/Lister. I'm conservative.

What's your RD slash favourite rarepair?

Don't have one. I'm a R/L fangirl in and out.

If you write slash as well as reading it, how did you get started? Were you inspired by RD, or another fandom? If you were inspired by RD, did anyone here start you down the slashing path?

I try to write but I find it exhausting and I never finish what I started. My first fic, was, shockingly, a Caroline in the City story - that I wouldn't show to anyone if I had a gun to my head. RD inspired me to write a couple of things but it wasn't a main influence.

1. No. I've had several over the years, with varying degrees of devotion. My longest sustaining ones have been the Beatles, BritCom, Harry Potter, Angel and Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse.

2. My girlfriend and I had been dating for a few weeks. For Valentine's Day last year, she said "I bought the Red Dwarf box set. Do you want to watch it?"

3. I got into slash because, as a bisexual woman, I was intrigued that so many bisexual/queer women I knew wrote it and read it. I love creative material that crosses sexual boundaries or ignores them altogether. I also have Kevin Smith to thank in part, for being a straight/bicurious man who *wrote in* implications that two of his main characters were attracted or having a slightly more complicated relationship than you saw at first glance.

4. I just surfed on in from LiveJournal. 'Didn't know about RDSS until I found a back entry on here mentioning it.

5. Rimmer/Lister. No question.

6. If I have one, it's probably Lister/SMAC!Ace -- the Rimmer who stole the time drive instead of blowing it up. He was a bigger coward than our boy; less of a hero because he left his crew to die, but Lister seems just as nurturing, just as willing to listen to him.

7. I was inspired by Kevin Smith's characters, the books by Anne Rice and Laurell K. Hamilton, other slash writers like [livejournal.com profile] nematoddity and [livejournal.com profile] lemmealone, and, more recently, queer writers like Patrick Califia.

As far as Red Dwarf goes, I've only written a few stories, but they owe a lot of inspiration to [livejournal.com profile] kahvi, [livejournal.com profile] roadstergal, [livejournal.com profile] madsciencelove and [livejournal.com profile] smaych. There's a melancholy in some of their stories that a gives what you see on the show a lot of texture and I absolutely love it.

1. It totally was! I've never thought about it before, but if you consider something that occupies your mind 24/7, causes you to spend all your pocket money leasing the video's from the store, and fail your exams because you're too busy studying the show rather than physics; then yes. This was my first fandom. Way back in time when I actually had school. And exams. And days off.

2. I actually CAN'T remember how. I think I saw an episode on TV or something. No, wait. I rented Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers from the school library. And BAM! I had to watch the show. Jesus... I'd clean forgotten!

3. Alas, Dragonball Z ate me for the slash thing first. Dwarf was a very close 2nd.

4. I Googled. ^_^ Google is like my best friend when it comes to finding communities on LJ. LJ's very own search is rather useless, strangely enough.

5. Lister/Rimmer. I'm something of a purist. There's just some couples you don't mess with, right?

6. Oooooo... Polymorph/Lister. Just 'cause. It made everybody happy, didn't it?

7. Um, I do believe my first slash fics were... aha. ER. Sorry. Haven't written any Dwarf yet, and that's simply because I'm utterly useless.

1: Not really, no. It has always been one of my favorite shows, though 'favorite' doesn't really begin to cover it. There are some things that are really close to my heart; books, TV-shows, films, graphic novels, etc. Red Dwarf is on that very short list. As far as participation in fandom goes, what with the reading and writing of fic and online chatting and so forth, that'd be Star Trek TNG, back in... 2002.

2: I'm happy to say I've been watching Red Dwarf since it first aired in 1988! This was the first RD comm I joined on LJ, yes. :)

3: I've always liked homoerotic subtext, even before I knew what it was. I'd known there was such a thing as fanfic for a long while, but I thought it was all badfic until I started searching for Data stories after seeing Nemesis in 2002. I found that there were some really good writers and stories out there, and just like that, I was engulfed in the fanfic world! I started writing/reading slash and het at the same time, though the 'slasher mentality' came some time later. I can't remember which was the first slash community I joined on LJ, but it was probably something Star Trek related. This comm was probably a close second.

4: I did join RDSS first, but I only lurked there. At that point, I was still really shy about RD slash, probably because the fandom is so close to my heart, and slashing these characters felt almost like starting a relationship. Urg, I sound batshit insane now. Next question!!

5: I don't like the term OTP, but my favorite pairing is Rimmer/Lister.

6: Hm... Possibly Lister/Petersen. There's so much potential awkwardness and denial there, which is unutterably sweet. Somehow.

7: I started writing fanfic shortly after I started reading it. Like I said, I've never really differentiated between slash, het and gen, so I'm not sure I could tell you when I first wrote a slash story, exactly. I've always enjoyed writing, so it was a natural thing for me to do. The first slash story I wrote was probably Garak/Bashir. I've shipped them since before I knew what slash was!

(ILU your icon! Have seen it around ages before I even found out what RD was, and even back then I thought it was rockin'. Any chance it might be snaggable?)

- my first fandom was La Femme Nikita; it was pretty much where I read my very first online fanfics

- RD was on BBC Prime a couple of years ago, and I caught it from the first or second ep, lucky me, and got hooked fast. It was refreshingly cracktastic! :-D

- this is my one and only RD comm :-)

- I fell into slash via LFN threesome fics (m/m/f, I mean), if I remember correctly; it was a rather rapid descent into depravity, I fear. ;-)

- my first slash comm... I think it was [livejournal.com profile] pirategasm in the Pirates of the Caribbean fandom

- I have no clue what the RDSS yahell group is about, and don't recall how I ended up here; I might have asked for RD slash recs at [livejournal.com profile] the_rec_room and was pointed here? Or I found it on my own if that post didn't gather a response I was satisfied with? Something like that.

- my OTP is Rimmer/Lister, I think. Though I'm not terribly picky; Kryten having sex is a bit squicky for me, but I'm fine with all pairings/threesomes and the like.

- ... don't have one?

- my first slash fanfic was Highlander's Methos/Mac, and it was so flowery and purple with prose it's just as well I never really posted it to an archive. >.< Reading all those Methos/Mac stories had left quite an impact, as you can tell.

*waves back* :-D

Also: Hey, I used to be your big fan back in the 'first movie is out, second is about to hit the fan' PotC day! I remember you wrote awesome (and long!) stories that really blew me away. Is it alright to pester you to ask what you've been writing, or should I just stop being lazy and snoop around your journal like decent fan *cough*stalker*cough* would? ;-) And it's great to see you in this fandom! Must check out if you've written anything in it - that would be super awesome.

Aww, what made you stop being a fan? ;-) (j/k) I remember your name was familiar at one time and I think we're both on the NPH community too. It's good to hear I'm remembered and in a good way (that fandom has not been the smoothest sailing - pun not intended, LOL) - thanks!

I have not written anything in this fandom, no, but I do have a bunch of new stuff since then at the top of my LJ for POTC. I just started watching RD again after a LONG hiatus, catching up on stuff I never saw. I sort of want to write something, but I'm not sure what - goofy and cracky and slashy, most likely, if anything. I just don't know if I'm up to it! But I have been reading some of the stuff posted around here. HEE *G*

1. Nope. My first fandom was Buffy. Red Dwarf was second.

2. I've seen it on BBC Prime a few years ago and fell in love with it. I joined the RDSS (lurking), which eventually lead me here (and to LJ in general).

3. I've come across slash before, but RD was my first slash fandom.

4. Rimmer/Lister As everyone, apparently.

5. Perhaps Lister/Petersen, mostly due to [livejournal.com profile] khavis fics.

I have no talents of any kind myself, so I only read and enjoy.

Was Red Dwarf your first fandom?
It was indeed XD, first of many, 'twas why I joined LJ

I got into RD via one of my best friends, she kept going on about it so I thought 'hey, I'll check it out'

I got into slash quite by accident, I was searching for pictures of the kiss from 'Blue', I think I must have googled Rimmer/Lister. I remember reading it and thinking HOLY SMEG! I didn't even know what slash was before that! and now I'm obsessed. I've broadened my horizons a little now, Monty Python and Beatles slash being the newest additions.I think femmeslash is the next one on my list (slash quite happily slammed the door in the face of sexual conventionalism for me)

Rimsy/Listy xxxx

I don't think I've ever considered any other pairing, does RP count?

The first slash I wrote was RD, I lurked around for a bit before dipping my toe in though.

Was Red Dwarf your first fandom? If not, what was?
As far as fandoms go, Red Dwarf for the longest time was the only closest thing to my heart. I didn't seem to notice that though until I'd be quoting the show along as it played, and my parents would stare at me until I left them to watch in peace. I've had a few games that have stuck fast since then, but RD's still my true love.

How'd you get into Red Dwarf? Was this comm your first RD comm?
I got into RD back when my parents got the first 4 VHS tapes of season one and two, about 10 years ago now. I then progressed onto the rest of the series and books one, two, three (a friend read this one to me) and lately four. This comm is my only RD comm.

How'd you get into slash? Was this comm your first slash comm?
Oddly enough, I believe it was in high school when my small group of friends passed around a borrowed series of Fake (yaoi manga). I didn't make the connection in RD until maybe a year later, when I was probably browsing around the internet for yaoi/slash stories.

Did you come here via the RDSS Yahoo Group, or alternatively join the RDSS Yahoo Group after hearing about it here?
Nope, I joined this community rather relatively late; back when LJ's search engine was still usable.

What's your favorite RD slash pairing?
Lister and Rimmer, of course. It's the obvious canon.

What's your RD slash favourite rarepair?
Rimmer with his double. (Lister sandwich optional)

If you write slash as well as reading it, how did you get started? Were you inspired by RD, or another fandom? If you were inspired by RD, did anyone here start you down the slashing path?
I don't write much of anything, but I'm fairly good at breeding plotbunnies and beta corrections/suggestions, and have offered for quite a few people. (and will offer for a few people more)
It's a hobby in itself, and since I get to read the stories and have a hand in their making, they feel a bit like my work as well.

My first fandom was "Back to the Future" and at first it was just me (hey, it was 1986 - no Internet and I was in high school in a small Midwest town). Then I found a guy who liked it as much as I did and for a few years, it was the two of us in the "fandom." *G*

I first caught RD on Sci-Fi (or was it Comedy Central?) back in the mid-90s shortly after college. I watched it for the humor then, but always thought there was something up between Lister and Rimmer, heh. I just recently got back into it thanks to my sister, [livejournal.com profile] dahlianna (who I think is a member here) and friend and co-writer [livejournal.com profile] metalkatt.

I first got into slash through the A-Team fandom back in 2000. But that was on eGroups/Yahoo Groups. My first slash comm was probably for Jack/Will in POTC fandom. Also the majority of my slash fic is there (some of which is written with the aforementioned metalkatt).

I guess Lister/Rimmer is my RD main pairing, though I wouldn't mind tossing a bird in with them, like Kochanski or Nirvanah, for a threesome. But mainly I just like their dynamic.
