The official site has two interesting updates this week - the chance to win tickets for the last two recordings: http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2012/01/13/win-audience-tickets

And a new teaser video: http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2012/01/13/more-new-photos-and-video-too

Spoilers (of the permitted kind) are trickling through about tonight's recording: Steven Wickham (Lister's GELF bride) was in it in some capacity - he Tweeted this himself. Andrew Ellard wrote something about the ending not being shown to the audience as it hadn't been filmed?!

Last but not least, this community has been mentioned on Twitter! In a discussion with Andrew about the need for a new, more independent fan site, TOS Administrator Seb Patrick Tweeted this: "I think the most active creative output seems to come from the slash fiction LJ community!". :)

Wait, WHEN WAS THIS? I copied all of the discussions out of Twitter. *hastily checks to see what she missed* Interesting that I'm not getting all his tweets in my feed. It skipped over select few. Odd!

And I don't know whether to be freaked out or impressed that he thinks we're the creative lot haha!

I'm not sure. He was talking how discussion groups were great, unofficial forums didn't have time to do in-depth analysis, then he gave the 'creative output' line. It was meant sadly, I think, but not toward the list. I took it to mean more a general idea that out of all the official forums out there, it takes a little group of us to think outside the box.

It's my little belief and I'll stick to it

I think "worried" is the word I would use. As I told Jan elsewhere, I regard fanfic like Fight Club: The first rule is, don't talk about it - to those in the position of actually creating the original product. Second rule - see Rule 1. ;-)

The last thing you really need is somebody with actual power getting PO'd at us and telling us we can't do it any more. (Fan Fic, that is.)

Not mine. But someone out there agrees.

Being shut down isn't something I worry about - we're not doing anything remotely illegal here, at least not by the laws of my country (that's the only one I can speak for - I don't know about Mother Russia, land of LiveJournal, LOL). For me, it's just a matter of not wanting to draw Sauron's eye any more than I have to, to employ an extreme analogy. ;-)

OH, believe me, I understand that. I learned that early on in fandom as I had some mentors who had been in Rat Patrol and one of the actors found out - and went ballistic. This list is already on lockdown, isn't it? No one can read/post without being a member?

Well, yeah, it is - provided entries are locked (which, this one and many aren't) and that nobody affiliated with the show's production is a member under an assumed name (which, they probably are - it's usually somebody's job to poke around and see what's being discussed out there relative to a production, for marketing opportunities). LOL. This is why I don't use MY real name on the Internet, nor my fannish name around official people I meet IRL.

I think knowing that fanfic exists, generally, isn't a big deal for most screenwriters/producers/actors; Paramount had this fight with fans back in the 90s, trying to stop them producing their own works, and lost, over Star Trek (and has since presumably learned the value of leaving it the hell alone so other people can find and read it, and become interested in the franchise). I just wouldn't point them to any specific source, if I had the opportunity, or hand them a printout of the story I wrote or the fanart I drew.

Just be glad you're not in the SPN fandom if the idea of it makes you that uncomfortable. Not only do the show's creative staff know about fanfic, they've worked awareness of it into the show on multiple occasions.

HAHAA! Apparently you missed this little tidbit on (http://kronette.livejournal.com/302346.html) my LJ. Yeah, the show's tanked in my opinion because the showrunner is now a fan (a Sam-fan to be specific). I had to skip the past two "meta" episodes because I will not watch the actors play their characters playing the actors, or whatever other fuckery they were writing. I take it you've seen the character of Becky? A fan who wrote slash fic with the brothers - no one I knew was happy about it showing up on screen or having a mary sue type representative on screen. For the studios, actors and franchises that say "live and let live, just don't tell me about it" - awesome. I'm perfectly happy steering clear of anything official.

My twitter has no connections to my LJ, and my facebook has no connections with either. Even my posts on the forums is under yet another name. I learned that lesson within posting my second story online. Was told by a wise fan never, ever use your real name :)

It doesn't really make me uncomfortable; I've met a few actors who knew about gen stories and didn't have a problem with them. It's the "fans" who ask questions at conventions, to the actors, about specific stories or slash in general that make the entire audience boo them back to their seats. Yes, it's happened at least four times when I was in the audience, and I've heard of dozens more. This was back in Highlander, DS9 and of course, SPN. I want to beat my head on a desktop, then beat the speaker senseless.

I am in the rare position of knowing most of SPN canon without being a fan of it. My sister, whom I have lived with for the past year, watches it and for some inexplicable reason, won't do so anymore unless I'm at home to watch with her. So yeah, I've seen those episodes; since I'm not a fan, I was able to watch them pretty cheerfully, LOL. I would describe my sister's reaction as horrifically amused; she doesn't want them making fun of the fans, but she's glad with them poking fun at themselves as much as they want. (For the record, I thought the meta ep of them playing themselves playing actors was funny. There was no nod to fans except for Misha tweeting everyone, and the numerous pokes at the Jared character's supposedly lavish and self-absorbed lifestyle was hilarious. Especially the alpaca thing.)

Odd that your sister will only watch with you there. I prefer watching alone, because while I like to make comments to the screen, I don't like it when other people do haha!

If Misha tweeted as often as he did in that episode, we would have been pleased. As it is, he lavishes us with two posts a month if we're lucky. He's an evil bastard, but we love him. :D

Eh, I can give or take the SPN fandom; I'll still watch an episode here and there, but I'm not devoted and rabid like I had been the first 3 seasons. Thankfully, I'm not rabid about RD. Maybe a seasoned fan? I'm only a bit fangirly now because I never had anyone to talk to about my love of it until I found you guys. So, thanks for that :)
