(No, it's not an Easter candy announcement. Too early for that yet.)

Guess what groundbreaking British sci-fi comedy of the '80s, long absent from Netflix, has its first nine series back in my instant watch queue as of today? ;-)

Pleased to hear it. It can only help Series X sales in the US. :)

First Series X needs to be promoted in the US. Since nothing has been said about it being broadcast, unless you pick up the sci-fi magazines (I saw one at Christmas) and notice an ad for the DVD, most of US has no idea there was even a series made.

Rewatched "Only The Good..." and was disappointed at the edits to it. I'm so used to seeing the alternate endings that the broadcast version seems very choppy.

I was naively hoping that people might like it enough to look and see if there was more. :p

"Only The Good" is a mess of an ep, tbh. The extended scenes are more interesting than the broadcast version, as your fic proves. :)

Before I found this comm, I didn't realize BTE happened until I was watching on Netflix and it asked if I wanted to watch the next episode. I might have heard that there was another 'series' after 8, but I didn't remember. So...maybe other US viewers who weren't aware that BTE happened, will go out and look up more info and see that there are new episodes.

Oh, Only The Good DESPERATELY needed some of those extended scenes included in broadcast. The "shambles" line Rimmer tosses after Hollister makes no sense without the lead-up scene. Too much time spent with the silly vending machine (what is it with Doug and vending machine conversations?) when that could have been cut down drastically and more put into the plot. Actually, now that I think about it, the episode as it aired is horrible. Rimmer is stuck by himself in the mirror universe, and the machine that took him there blew up before the others could get to the mirror side. Yet...Rimmer is able to return to our universe, sees the machine melted (extra special time showing it, too) as the ship is falling apart. He shouldn't have been able to come back, period. The mirror didn't work when he immediately turned around after stepping through the mirror.

AAAHH THE PLOT HOLES, THEY BURN.

I hope so; literally all they'd have to do is type "Red Dw" into Google and it brings up info about Series X. ;)

I think part of the reason that ep's such a mess is that Doug expected it to be the last ever TV ep and was trying to set things up for the film. He obviously wasn't sure how best to do that.
