A fic I'd love to read

Clearly I've been reading waaaaaaaaaaay too many soul-mates fics, because I saw a picture of Lister and Ace, and thought of this.
What if Ace and Lister are soul-mates.  No one's ever realised that soul-mates can be cross-dimensional as well.
Rimmer's been in love with Lister for years, and Spanners is in love with Ace.  What will this mean for them?  Are Spanners and Rimmer really soul-mates?  If not, where is Rimmer's soul-mate?  And what about when Ace and Lister meet again, only it's Ace Mark 17.0 or something like that, and not his real soul-mate?
Uh, yeah.  Probably giving this too much thought.

For me, writing Ace is a bit tiring. He's a handful (mind out of the gutter...), a bigger-than-life personality that overtakes everyone around him.

I know there have a been a few "wrong" Aces return to Lister, and those were absolutely heartbreaking :( And I know of one where our Rimmer-as-Ace runs into the first Spanners and he sees how heartbroken Spanners is that his Ace is dead.

I think I inadvertently created a soul-mate Ace/Lister cross-dimensional situation in one of my first stories. Ace tells Lister and Rimmer that L/R are together in more universes than they're not. I didn't explore it further than the four of them (Ace picked up a lost Lister along the way).

By opening the door with Dimension Jump, we have infinite versions of Lister and Rimmer (including female versions- I want to see Arlene "Ace" Rimmer!). It's almost a pick-and-choose which version you want with which.

That's true! What if they ran out of male Aces, or the latest Ace was dying, and the nearest dimension was the gender-swap one? Would Arlene have to take over? That'd be interesting to read.
