For those following the Introcast, here's the link to the latest episode, this time reviewing "Blue". They're not particularly keen. Not because of the kiss (which they rather liked), more because of Kryten's attitude to Kochanski and the plot inconsistencies. (Boy, did they pick the wrong show.) Their speculation about Kochanski's Lister has given me really scary thoughts about him getting memory implants in order to please her - how else would any version of Lister be that knowledgeable about and interested in opera? http://thereddwarfpodcast.podbean.com/2013/07/16/season-7-episode-5-blue/
I felt kind of bad for them. "Kryten better stop whinging real fast!" Oh, Heath, honey. No.
And not liking the underwear jokes as gender-cliched. Oh, Angela. Avoid Series 8. Can you imagine her reaction when Kryten is classed female because he lacks any genitalia at all? How about "Have A Fantastic Period!"
To be fair, after "Beyond A Joke" the worst of the whinging is toned down and he starts to accept KK more.
But yes, we're entering the worst period (hah!) of the show and I really hope they stick it out until "BTE", which I imagine they'll like. Angela's kind of right again with her "Kryten goes psychotic" guess - it's just directed at AR Jane Austen characters rather than KK!
Angela's really good at guessing about the episodes, isn't she?
I was really looking forward to their take on this one. This is where Kochanski's writing starts to grate on me as well - I really liked her neuroticism in the previous two episodes, but here's where the woman jokes really take over. I'm not sure if I agree with them on their interpretation of Lister's memories. I find it perfectly plausible that Rimmer and Lister might have hung out sometimes without the cat. Cats come and go as they please, and the Cat seems to initially be the same way. Plus there are mentions of them spending time together, seemingly socially, even before the accident - isn't there something about planet leave on Miranda. I also didn't find Kochanski's theory quite as farfetched as they do - I don't think Rimmer made any kind of conscious sacrifice of his happiness for Lister, but I think it can be argued that keeping Lister sane did require sacrifices, whether he realized he was making them or not.
The memory implants idea is very creepy. I can see it happening, too.
They make a good point in that this is not Rimmer, but their interpretations of Rimmer throughout, which I had not thought about before - it would explain the inconsistent uniform choice, if Lister is remembering him as he last saw him before he became Ace. The Rimmer Experience too, of course, ties in with such a theme, a cross between Rimmer's fantasy of himself and how Kryten saw him as the smee heeeee.
It occurred to me whilst listening to their theories about KK's dimension that the line between ficcers and "normal" fans is very thin. It's very easy to start theorising. ;)
I always beware of such as that, because when people are willing to admit that they write fanfic in their real name, they generally don't write the same kind of fanfic I do, and think the kind I write is weird - so I don't tend to tell them I do. :-D
Hmmm, good point. I hadn't thought of it like that. Still, I don't get the impression from their occasional references to slash that they hate it. They seem quite good-humoured about it. :)
There's a very funny gen fic about that planet leave incident mentioned in "Marooned". :) Agreed that in the early days Cat may well have missed some interaction between Lister and Rimmer. In the show he's always there because it makes sense to use all the actors in a story (and is fairer to Danny).
Hello! This is Angela from the Red Dwarf Introcast. Just want to say that I appreciate all your kind words. I am celebrating having watched the entire series by looking up all the fanfiction and forums I can find, and I quite love all of it. I don't quite ship Rimmer/Lister... but that's most because I want Rimmer to myself. Cheers!
Gosh, I'm a bit thrown for a loop; I had no idea. :) I suppose if Craig's not your type it's difficult, although he's very much mine.
For the time being, I offer a fluffy Christmas fic by one of our best writers. More convincing to come if you want it. :)

EDIT: http://reddwarfslash.livejournal.com/203771.html This one is by another excellent writer. The slash is so subtle as to be almost invisible, but she has their characters down to a tee. :)
Heya *waves* ... I like listening to you guys. I've had a lot of fun with the introcast and am sad to see it come to something of a close out of necessity - but glad you guys are gonna be caught up with everyone else when you want to dip into the fandom, at least, I guess?
Convincing, eh? I don't know that anything will convince per se, but self-pimping, here I come. Here's a fic I wrote - it's AU and slash and a few bad words, but no overt sex, maybe a little schmaltzy at a point, in retrospect, but oh well: http://archiveofourown.org/works/959796
Here's an old Christmas one from our community mod. It's pre-series, when Rimmer is still alive, and also slash, no overt sex. I like it for the humor, and it's cheerful overall: http://archiveofourown.org/works/47273
(I picked "non-sex" because I remembered an Introcast where you said you're not really into that part of fanfic, so I tried to think of a couple that fit that criteria just right off the top of my head. There are more, although we do have a lot of porny contributions in this fandom, including a lot from me. :-D )
