Yeah, we probably don't need to do anything about this petition, since this was just posted by Digital Spy: http://www.digitalspy.com/british-tv/feature/a564887/the-office-top-gear-and-more-bbc-twos-greatest-ever-shows.html#~oC1VLsqI1NsYLZ It lists Red Dwarf as the FIRST SHOW mentioned as being eligible, so whoever thought the show was snubbed in the first place read it wrong. Not that it hasn't been snubbed by BBC in the past.
The rules are as follows: shows like Red Dwarf that originated on BBC Two are eligible, but shows better associated with another channel are not - say Top of the Pops, which aired on BBC One for the majority of its run but shifted to the sister channel for its final episodes.
And someone commented that it's been mentioned twice in the BBC retrospective tonight. So. Yah?
Go to change.org and sign the petition. It's time BBC ADMITTED and ACKNOWLEDGED that Red Dwarf is one of their own.

Date: 2014-04-20 10:35 pm (UTC)In all honesty, I've just been reading Twitter and G&T and there's a lot of confusion over whether this petition is necessary. One of the Fan Club team thinks Danny misunderstood a newspaper list for an official BBC one (well, that's the very short version). I don't know whether to be embarrassed or not.
What's not in doubt is that at least two and possibly more of the cast feel the BBC treated them like poor relations for a decade - Robert's blogged to this effect. So, if people want to sign a petition demonstrating the widespread (and international) love that RD fans have for their show, I don't think it can do any harm. :)
