Hello everyone,
I'm new here, not sure about the rules and stuff like that but just thought I'd introduce myself.
I am very glad to have found this community, reading through the posts here I can see a fantastic group of kind creative and open minded people and I can't wait to get to know you.
Years ago I begun jotting down some ideas for Red Dwarf fanfiction. Sadly circumstances beyond my control stopped me from finishing them in fact they stopped me from writing altogether.
Thankfully, late last year the series also inspired me to return to writing again as I suddenly found myself thinking up storylines again. Then, dear me, I was introduced to Red Dwarf slash and realised that I could actually write down some of the things I thought about when watching Red Dwarf. Sub-sequentially finding back a book of old notes I once made told me I should give it a go.
I have two pre slash tales already posted on Archive of Our Own and have just finished my first "love story".
Love,
DanniiXX

Date: 2015-11-20 05:30 pm (UTC)I'm still relatively new to the RD Slash community as well, I only started writing Lister/Rimmer about a year and a half ago, and only first discovered RD about two years ago.
I hope you'll find this group as welcoming and enjoyable as I have. :-)
Do you go by the same name on AO3? I'm lordvalerymimes on there as well, but I'm allsortsofsmeg on Tumblr.

Date: 2015-11-23 04:25 pm (UTC)I've read your fic about Cat and Rimmer being trapped together in his big closet. I quite liked how you had them bond over organization and lists. :-)
Do you always write in the format of a script? It's not something I've seen very often on AO3, so I'm just curious. :-)

Date: 2015-11-23 06:41 pm (UTC)Thank you!! I always felt Rimmer and the Cat would get along, if only they'd give each other a chance, a real shame it was never explored in the series ...
I usually do as it is what I'm most used to creative writing wise.
Why I'm best at that writing format, I haven't got a clue - well, no that's not true: most of my creative writing has been in script format as I used to write comedy shows a lot in the past and I think it kind of stuck. π
Except for my articles and the Brittas synopsis I've never posted anything not in script format, weird thinking about it ...
I am trying to do a story format style follow up to "a joke too far", but for some reason it's more far difficult and also the most dramatic. Would love to know if you think I should give that a go. This is a short scene from "The Garden":
(It's set three weeks after "A Joke Too Far" and a month before "Something Good", which I'm posting tomorrow. It's about Rimmer suffering the after effects of the "surgery" Kryten did on him. The removal of his brain blockage suddenly lets him experience and relive everything he tried to repress.)
"Once again Kryten clearly heard heart-wrenching sobs emanating from Mr Rimmer's quarters. This time he'd had enough. He entered the room to find Mr Rimmer laying on the floor curled up into a ball weeping like a lost child. When Mr Rimmer looked up Kryten saw fear in his eyes, he knew the fear, he had felt it when he stored his memories and emotions during the operation. The fear of being mocked for showing emotion. He had to do this right. βOh Mr Rimmer, sir you should not be on the floor!!β Kryten babbled cheerfully. βCome along now, let me help you to bed.β He was, at first, surprised to find that Mr Rimmer didn't utter one word of protest or annoyance at him barging in like that. Then he understood: Mr Rimmer was grateful someone cared."

Yes I do:
Here's one about Rimmer and Cat forced to be together and finding common ground:

And this is the first of a series I'm writing where Rimmer goes through a journey to find himself. It's the first one I wrote and I'm not sure I'm too happy about it anymore now I've been writing more.

I'm glad you like the Chris Twitter. Him having no Twitter presence is exactly why I created it, it's a shame he's so against the internet he often gets left out of things because of it.

Date: 2015-11-21 12:22 am (UTC)Oh, don't worry, I'm not shipping them like that π
There is a big Rimmer/Lister storyline coming up.
For this one I was inspired by a conversation on a Red Dwarf forum about why their relationship was never explored because in a way they had a lot in common.
It had crossed my mind Cat might actually feel something for Rimmer but would never admit it and Rimmer, of course, would never want anyone but Lister anyway ....
