The events of "Rimmerworld" are one of those times in the show where if you think about it too hard you get incredibly depressed. There really is no way to put a positive spin on this one and your fic captures that well. :)

It is indeed so tragic and depressing. They should have focussed on this a bit more with a Rimmer/Lister talk at the end.
It's not something you just "come out of" ...
