Psychoticaly jealous Kryten never fails to creep me out. Kochanski knows what's going on (though her vague memories of Rimmer make me want to slap her).
Now if Ace accidentally met her Dave and he asked for his help to get her back... or something.....anything...please?

Well, I can't blame her - pre-death Rimmer wasn't really a man worth remembering. ;) Squiggle was working on a nifty fic with just that premise - Ace meets the hard-light Lister...

Yeah, I wish Kochanski in the series tried to figure out a few things instead of being whiny and bitchy. And of course Lister kept on dreaming - the more he tried to hate Rimmer in daytime, the more his subcon will prod him at at night ;-)
I have to admit the psycothic Kryten who killed his crew is a continuity error to me - this is simply a completely different Kryten from earlier season, like the Rimmer in VIII is not the real one.
Actually, the stories you made earlier where Ace returns and Kryten makes trouble together with Ace computer could be a continuation of this. Uncertain what other variations could be made on it. Unless you could have Ace and Kryten come to some sort of reconciliation, making Kryten understand that Lister will always need someone to do the housework, cause Rimmer will not do it for him :-)

Ja, although I do sympathize with VII-Kochanski (not so much VIII-Kochanski). She just wants to get back to her universe, after all, and then she has to deal with grotty landers and jealous mechanoids and other-Listers who want to shag her; I forgive her a little culture shock. :)

Was it ever said that Kryten killed his crew? In the books, he indirectly caused their death by washing the computer, but that's in character with Kryten, IMO.

Ja, we wrote the Spanners/Breaking The Chain fics to fit with all of canon as stands, as best we could. But I do like the idea of an alternate plotline with Ace having to come to some understanding with Kryten, since these are still two characters who, at heart, just don't like each other. I'm imagining Lister trying to make them cooperate, like Dumbledore with Sirius and Snape at the end of GoF... :)

I distinctly remember a scene with Kryten and Lister comforting each other over something and Kryten talking about how he lost his crew, and Lister saying "you killed them". Beginning of an early VII episode, I think. It did not sound like he killed them by mistake, but of course no details were given, so the book explanation can go (I have not read the books).
I can just hear it actually: "yes, I smegging well love him, but rest assured I will not be doing his dirty laundry, even it it means having you around!"

Oh, ja, that was Oroborous. "You killed the crew, Kryten! No wonder you ended up on your own! All right, it was an accident, but nevertheless..." I took that as being a bit of continuity with bookverse, where Kryten gave the computer a jolly good cleaning with lots of soap and water, and the ship crashed.

Oooh, that would be a lovely scene... Rimmer and Kryten hating each other so, but forced by necessity, one that comes down to Lister... and Lister, half annoyed that they just can't get along, half smug that they will pretend to anyway.

He doesn't say in the series it was an accident? As I remember it, he just says You killed them, and that is the punch line of the scene and no further explanation. You are sure you are not remembering that from the book? Or maybe I remember wrong, I will check it when I get home.

I would have something deep and meaningful to say, but all intelligent thought seems to have disappeared. Er. Well done! Strange to see Kochanski and Kryten having a deep conversation, but it works quite well. They hate each other, but they end up having Talks anyway.

Well, Kryten is just psychotically jealous - I think Kochanski would get along with him fairly well if he were not. They do get along much better in VIII - maybe because they're kept seperate from Lister? Kryten knows there will be no sneaking into Lister's bunk at night in the Tank - well, not on the part of Kochanski, at least.

It must frustrate Lister to no end that as soon as Rimmer was starting to be more human and less of a git, he leaves. And then Lister is left at square one with Revived!Rimmer. Poor guy, his love life sucks.

Good point. But I think Lister convinced Rimmer to leave because he thought Ace would be good for Rimmer, not because he wanted him gone.

Oh, yes, I agree! He thought he was doing what was right for Rimmer. And maybe, trying to make Rimmer realize what he had in himself - not realizing, perhaps, how much Rimmer had changed since his death, and that he didn't have to kick the hologram out in order for Rimmer to realize his potential. But then VIII comes around, and he does realize how much Rimmer changed!

Er, move right along. Nothing to see here. Not another interlude in the works.

Wonderful description of the alternate Rimmer. You know, I almost want to write a story about how Kochanski and alt!Lister get together now. Or maybe that's just the Lister fangirl in me. Hm. It's a lovely universe, isn't it?

Yes, I should, ugh. Of course, so should Rob and Doug! But there are things I want to do with Last Human. I feel like there is so much slashy possibility there. Doug seems to want to make Rimmer grow into a better person, while Rob wants to re-cast Ace as a more realistic person.
