Just a quick question, regarding names.

In Dimension Jump, the AU version of Lister, is his name really 'Spanners'? Or is that a witty nickname, given the fact that he's an engineer?

What is his name, then?

I vote witty nickname. Because Ace is the sort of guy who can get away with that sort of shit and not get punched in the nose for it.

It wasn't said explicitly in the TV show that it was a nickname, but a) Ace tosses 'our' Lister 'Skipper' as a nickname, and b) Lister refers to Spanners as 'another Lister.' That's why I assumed 'Spanners' was a nicknamed David Lister in the TV show.

It's explicit in the book Backwards - Spanners is just what Ace calls Lister. When he's not calling him 'old love.'

Ace is the nick-name king. I speculated in a story that "Bongo" was Ace's nickname for the commander, and it just stuck, like all the nicknames he gives people do.

Yes, ma'am. And after he's been looking at the tape of *plot point involving Ace, but Ace is in the tape* all night, he goes to give Bongo the big solution to everything, and there's quite a lot in there about Bongo noticing that Spanners/Lister has an erection. Ace/Spanners in Backwards - too slash for words.
