Summary: Several things happened to Dave Lister in his formative years that changed the course of his life. At age ten, Lister discovered the wonders of the male penis and the pleasure it could bring him.

This really struck a chord with me because what my mind tends to dream up when it's roaming in Fanfic World is a less intense version of what you've depicted here. The possessiveness, the desperate, lethal adoration. I wouldn't want every story to have that as the endgame (or would I??), but it's always tempting...

Thank you for sticking with me. I normally don't post WIPs, I wait until the whole story is done. But the darker I get, the more I want to get the chapters out there, maybe to get reassurance that I haven't broken the lads beyond repair. Maybe to force myself to finish the stories. I'm surprised at how easy it was to write Lister; honestly he told me this story on a drive home from work. Maybe the desperation was borne out of watching Lister pine for KK, or his depression in "Dear Dave," and me wanting him to have something to cling to. They both need, and even on a ship full of people, why not each other?

I also feel like I'm writing the characters too OOC, though it's to be expected in an AU doesn't mean I particularly like it. I pictured it like this: you take the Horsemen episodes of Highlander, mix in "Demons and Angels" and "Rimmerworld," and these characters are pretty much what you're going to see. As long as I stick to these characterizations, I should be fine.

It's very strange, because this chapter has been essentially done for over two months (I found the text; May 25 is when I said I had it nearly done), but I was waffling on continuing with the next part in this chapter, or breaking it into two parts. It took two months to realize that it needed to be two chapters; this has a completely different feel than the next part will, but this was important and necessary to show now, to understand chapter 5, which will be the last chapter (it better be, or I'll be in the loony bin).

This is actually the first time I've read underage sex (I don't count "Hollowed Out" since Rimmer was 16 which is legal here). Oh God, I'm going to hell. :/

The thing is, it's really easy to imagine because Craig looks so young in the early seasons anyway. And as you pointed out, it's canon that Lister was a very early developer sexually.

This is just so intense and overwhelming, but I know I'll have to read to the end just to see what happens.

BTW, regarding the previous chapter - I forgot to say that "the curls surrounding his erection" is the prettiest description of that type of body hair that I can remember reading. :)

If you're going to hell for reading it, what happens to me for writing it? *huge grin* As the plaque on my wall states: I may be going to hell, but at least all my friends will be there. It was very odd; I didn't really have to de-age him to write this. The young face is still young, and I imagined his dreads in their shorter version, which made him younger. I saw him as short and skinny, with Rimmer being lightly muscled and thin as well. But his voice never changed, which it most definitely should have. Imagine him at 16 through the whole thing if it helps.

I know what it's like to be wary of reading something too intense - Emily Brunson wrote some stunning DS9 stories, and I had to stop reading them. Vivid, intense, and so far outside of what I knew (back in 1996) that I couldn't handle it. To this day, thinking about one of the scenes makes my stomach twist funny; now that is a writer. I apologized to her for not being able to finish reading the story. So I'll understand if you can't or don't want to finish reading this; I can always give you a summary when I'm done so you'll know how it ended.

I thought my description of Lister in the red silk shirt and open leather trousers was particularly hot :) I wish I had an actual visual for that...mmmmm. Water droplets sliding down his chest...mmmm.....

Lister is an unusual character, in that you don't often see someone who is so 'cute' who can also be extremely sexy - people tend to fall into one category or the other. Similarly, he's got that intriguing mix of hardness and softness about him. He can be tough, demanding and self-assured but underneath that he has a real vulnerability too. It's why I've always found him the most interesting character, particularly sexually.

In terms of the underage stuff, well...as you say it is canon. As someone who was also an early developer it doesn't seem too out of place to me. I know from my diaries that I was having fully-fledged sexual fantasies and masturbating at age 11 (although I made a decision fairly young that I didn't want to have sex until I was eighteen and I stuck to that). I can totally see Lister as the kind of boy who would have a go at seducing his social worker :-)

I totally agree with your perceptions of Lister. The adorable baby-face combined with the confidence and sex-appeal he has is a rare and intriguing combination. He's a fascinating character.

It was good to get some backstory on these versions of Rimmer and Lister. I'm still very curious to see how we're going to go from this to Emperor Rimmer!

I'd planned the backstory almost from the beginning, but Lister wouldn't tell me what it was until I was midway through chapter 2, and that's where I got stuck for months. I'm making good progress now, and learning to balance writing and the rest of my 'real' life so I don't neglect either one. I tend to focus on ONE THING, aka writing, and it consumes my life. I live inside the story headcanon so I'm distracted all the time, and cannot concentrate on anything else. I guess I understand obsession and singlemindedness after all :)

Yes I'd seen that picture of him before, but it still makes me squee every time I see it. Chris Barrie's hair was a thing of beauty.

I think we all have a similar idea of Lister, in that he's very open and loving and generally unrepressed about sexual things. It wasn't until I met Craig last year that I thought of Lister as sexy, though. Lister has had moments, definitely, but experiencing that charisma in person, with that laugh and that dirty twinkle in his eye, I transferred that over to Lister (which explains my turn-around in being able to write from Lister's POV so easily). Now I can't seem to turn him off...

It didn't occur to me that readers might have issues with a 12 year old having sex. Rather silly, I know, but in this story context, it was just who Lister was. He loved sex, therefore he had sex, but he was smart enough not to flaunt it in the adult's faces. And Lister clearly choose it for himself as something he wanted, yet not quite mature enough to handle the more hard-core feelings that came with Rimmer's introduction.

And now, if you'll excuse me, I've found a new way to have fun with Lister....*cracks knuckles and opens Word* Where was I?
