Sorry, I should have posted this as a one-shot; I thought it would take longer to write Part II. :p

Maybe it was merely because Lister had been thinking about the hologrammatic Rimmer.

Well, yes, exactly. He does have the potential, but he is a different person. And holo-Rimmer is still out there. Lister would feel quite strongly about that. Frankly, I don't see Lister getting involved with ressurected-Rimmer under any circumstances, except the one you've outlined here. He'd feel it was some sort of betrayal.

In my mind, it all works out in the end, though. :)

Ja, that's another thing I think Lister would be thinking of. Is Arn still alive? Or is he off circling that planet in pieces? Or did he decide not to pass on the flame and rip another Rimmer away from his Lister? In any case, does Lister think he's lost Arn altogether by his own action - and if so, would he consider an improved-live-Rimmer a chance to do the right thing, for both of them? Or would he rather wait for holo-Rimmer, knowing that it may well be in vain, because that's the right thing?

Yeah... He can't answer those questions, you know. That's part of why he's lost, I think. :/

Of course, he is an optimist at his core. I think, if pressed, he'd admit he thinks his Arn will come back to him. But of course, then there's this Rimmer to consider. He'd want to do right by him too. Personally, I think he should set him up with Kochanski. Slap some sense into the woman.

It makes so much sense. If only SHE'D get that! *grumbles* Here she is, existing in a universe where Rimmer and Lister are real, and she turns the both down?? She needs help.
