So - was Red Dwarf X not represented at all at the recent Comic Con? I understand the trailer wasn't out yet (I don't think), but it was very close ... and trailers air all the time at CC that haven't aired to the public yet ... and ...

WELL, AND RED DWARF STILL GOING AFTER 24 YEARS SHOULD BE A BIG FUCKING DEAL AT NERDVANA. I'm sorry, but it should.

Anyway, does anyone know if it was shown/discussed/referenced there as it should have been?

I have friends who went to San Diego and no, it wasn't mentioned and a quick search doesn't show any cosplay. The BBC booth is reserved for Doctor Who, Merlin was there I believe, but I don't believe much else. Dave wouldn't have the money to get a panel or booth there, not for one show. A modest dealer table costs $2K, but I've no idea what a place at the panels costs. I haven't heard of RD coming to the US for cons, whether for trailers or actor appearances...ever? I know a few came over for PBS launches and such, but it's been years. Alas.

I know, right? The under-appreciation of Red Dwarf in the world bothers me. I fully expected Ace Rimmer to come parachutting out of that plane at the Olymic Opening Ceremony...:P

You're a genius. You should have been the creative mind behind the Olympics. <3

Unfortunately, I think RD is viewed as an 80s/90s thing in some circles. It's not fair of course. Hopefully RDX will change that.

The majority of Brits between 30 and 50 would recognise it without necessarily being fans. I think the majority of G&T posters are actually in their 20s.

Americans - well, I don't know. Back in the early to mid-90s, perhaps.

There are advantages to smaller fandoms though. A lot less wank, for a start. ;)

It's my personal goal to make RD better known in the States--I've turned at least 10 people into Smegheads. A modest number, but I'm working on it :)

Way to go! I've only done 5 or so.

I mentioned dressing up as an Ace-Arnie Hybrid ( my hair is the wrong color but it was the right length) at Wally-World before I quit and one of the Assistant Managers Yelled "Smeghead" at me... After that he insisted every time I saw him I had to give him a "Full Double Rimmer" every time I saw him. The Store manager pulled me a side and asked me for an explanation. He thought it was something perverted.

Well.... no....I just kind of you know performed the Rimmer salute and he laughed and told me both me and the assistant were insane. We called the manager a smeghead behind his back until I quit. :)

A "Full Double Rimmer" does sound incredibly rude if you know the double meaning. I think though that it's less well known in Britain.

Well I never realized it was naughty until somebody said something about it. I guess I never heard it. *shrugs* I must have been sheltered.

I didn't realise until I was an adult. It's actually a very appropriate name for early Rimmer. Not so much the later version.

Far better than me. I can't even get my sci-fi friend to watch a single episode. *sigh*

No, that friend would never have come to the con. I could barely get her in the same city as me when we were planning the UK trip together. She's dropped out now (a good thing for me) as another friend is wanting to go to the UK AND the con, and we have similar tastes in things to see & do. We're much more compatible :)

As for the sci-fi friend who hates RD without knowing a thing about it: I just asked her to put "Marooned" on her Kindle for the trip to Italy she's taking on Thursday and her response was "I'm not putting anything Red Dwarf on my Kindle." It's one frigging episode and she has two 17 hour flights!! Heaven forbid I suggest a show or movie she might like; she's never taken my advice yet expected me to watch everything she loved. Yeah, no. I have not and will not ever like Farscape. Yet I know every plot and detail because she never shut up about it.

Ignore me; my neck is stiff and hurting ever since Sunday. I think my entire left side of my body is misaligned and I need to get it adjusted. It hurts to look to the left. I'll make a call to the chiropractor tomorrow. *sigh*

In America, I often feel like I'm the only fan, at least where I live. All of the fans I know I converted, and when I actually met someone who knew Red Dwarf, I nearly fainted.

The midwest seems to have at least one in each state (Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Illinois) :D
