Hi There, I'm New.

So yes I'm relatively new to the fandom and entirely new to the world of FanFiction, but I've been utterly smitten with Red Dwarf and all the Lister and Rimmer slash that is out there. I've been reading a ton of it over the last few months and I finally decided to bite the bullet and write something myself. I know I've got a lot to live up to since so much of what I've read so far in the community has been absolutely fantastic, but hopefully it at least isn't complete rubbish.

Also I'm not even sure if it's kosher for me to be posting it here, so feel free to slap me on the wrists if I need to go through some sort of initiation rites first. :)

I'm very amused by all the thoughts about the icon! Unfortunately the truth is not quite so interesting as it being Lister as a mime or Boy George. :D

I wanted to come up with a new username to use for my Red Dwarf fanfics, so I experimented with coming up with some anagrams. I like anagrams. I settled on Lord Valery Mimes because the "Lord" bit amused me because it reminded me of Lord Voldemort, and I thought the bit about miming was funny too.

I popped onto some stock photography websites to look for a pictures of a mime to use for my icon and I thought it was perfect when I found this slightly angsty looking mime lady clutching a heart, especially since she's wearing a rose in her hair, which is something I also do. I added the A.J.R. to the heart and popped in a starry background to add the Red Dwarf connection, et voila.

I love that missflibble saw it as Lister though. Now I can't stop thinking of Lister made up as a mime, trying to express his love of Rimmer through pantomime...

No apologies needed, I love that you saw it as Lister! The mime-girl has braids/plaits in her hair and I can totally see where you might have gotten Lister from it. He is pretty after all. :)

Unsolicited crit regarding voices, feel free to ignore: Some of the thought-quotes read more like things that Lister would say out loud, and that does jar a little bit. But then again, if this were played out on screen, we could be hearing his thoughts in a voiceover, so maybe you're on to something??

I thought of having the thoughts be italicized rather than being formatted in the standard quotes for dialogue, but I wasn't sure whether it would make the formatting of the whole thing awkward. I've never written something with so many thoughts before so I wasn't quite sure how to handle it.

I did always imagine that Lister would sound in his head pretty much just how he sounds when he talks, but that's my take on him. :)

If you hadn't said you were new to writing fanfic, I wouldn't have known - this is sweet and sexy. Since you asked, I did spot a typo: "taught member" should be "taut".

I was in the same position as you a few years ago. I nervously posted my first ever fic here, people were nice about it and I carried on writing and gaining confidence, which is the only way to improve. :)

Consort Lister. I just posted about it. Its been brewing in my brain for over a YEAR. I thought of it while I was writing Static, which I posted in May last year. Sheesh. That's a long time for a story to take shape. Here's the vague idea (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-New-Men-s-Fashion-Casual-Slim-Leather-Vest-Men-Leisure-V-Neck-Sleeveless-Jacket/1115264311.html) of what he's wearing, only nothing is buttoned on him.

My break-up fic and rosecathy1's have similar ideas and phrases, actually. It was a bit scary to read how close I am, but yet her's has a better coherency to start. I have to let that one simmer some more. It's clearly not quite ready :)

Usually, people write this from Rimmer's POV; good to see a rare switch. Interesting too, how it's Rimmer's mind getting turned on - or maybe a mashup courtesy of Thanks for the Memory? (The oddest threesome ever, LOL.)

I was considering writing Rimmer's side of the story as well, but I have a harder time putting myself into Rimmer's POV. I'm much more of a Lister myself, so I think it would be more of a challenge. I might still try though. :)

Sounds pretty normal to me. Most RD writers tend to be able to write either Rimmer or Lister more easily. Personally I'm a Rimmer-writer - I find Lister really tricky and have to actively think about his characterisation a lot more.
